I have a Stratocaster American Standard 1989, serial number - E-941477. I am purchasing a new neck from Warmoth. I need to choose the fret size and can not decide between the following two choices on the Warmoth site:
SS6105  - .095” x .047” (narrow and tall – most popular choice)
SS6150 - .104” x .047” (standard Jumbo size – modern Fender American necks).
Does anyone know the original fret size on my 1989 Stratocaster?
Can anyone provide an opinion on these two choices?

My playing style is Clapton blues, Dire Straits finger style and Gary Moore.

Thank You.

Not off hand, but incredibly I remember Dan Erlewine's book the Guitar Player Repair Guide has the measurements on various starts and models.  I'd look there, and if that didn't get you anything, then I'd call Fender.  I've called them about specs and they've always had an answer. I'm also betting one those strat websites, similar to TRPI would have someone who might know.

Also you can measure your frets.

Personally, either of those choices will work, my preference is the SS6105.  YMMV.

I've had several American Standards from the mid-late 90's and 6150 frets feel exactly at home for me.

Of the two I prefer 6105. But on a whim I ordered 6130 for my last neck and these feel exactly like the ones on the SG I had as a kid. All my future necks will get 6130's.
The 6105's and the 6150's feel a bit too "modern" for me. The height of them is too pronounced. I like my frets a little lower. But I guess it's all a matter of what you grow up with and get used to, when starting out.

My own $.02:  SS6115's are very nice, and I get them on every neck I order.  They have the height of the other jumbos, but are not so wide, and you have more room between the frets higher up on the neck as a result.  And in stainless, you need not worry overmuch about the narrower fret wearing down.

My informed guess would be that the 89 had medium jumbo frets.  Currently, Fender would class those as 6130: Medium jumbo (.106″ x .036″).

6115 is perfect for anything I don’t want 6230...wish both came in the gold colour.
