Here's a Drill Press w/ Cross Sliding Table & Power Feed...

$2,324 delivered. ~30% cheaper than a Les Paul Custom.

You're welcome <grin>

It also costs more than SIXTY times what I paid for mine... I just need some solid L shaped steel. It also costs five times what the guitar costs, and definitely wont sound 5x as good plugged into a tube amp.

It's even upgradable to cnc, for another 2G's... :icon_biggrin:

Yeah, but then your output loses that "handmade" cachet that's worth so much these days...

Besides, one of those "C"s stands for "Computer", and you know how those things are.

Those pesky computers make me so angry I could just pinch them!

Being franco ontarian, I prefer sledgehammer tech support myself.

I have a fair amount of Franco-Ontarian blood myself, but I prefer more subtle methods of persuasion <grin>

Honest-to-goodness-no-kidding-really-happened-every-time story: had an old desktop computer that would invariably stop exactly halfway on all loading bars. until I hit it with a hammer.

my computer friend had some gibberish explanationf for how it actually could have this problem, but I don't remember any of that. all I remember is that hitting it with a hammer was fun, and the computer next to it was slower, even though it had a big red rocker switch labeled "turbo boost" (which was programmed to overclock the processor  :toothy12: )

Tips for locating neck bolt holes on body? Anyone?
If you have a neck already, you can take some neck screws and cut about a 1/2" inch off the end. And then screw them into the neck with just a little bit of the point sticking out. Then press the neck into the pocket and it will transfer the pattern into the neck pocket. Works like a charm... :icon_biggrin:

Just used one of these (C)

and a 5/8 straight bit

to widen the inside of my control cavity to make a little more room. Added probably 1/4" total width. Also made the cavity deeper (leaving only 1/4 thick on the back).

I also had to change my shorts. Man - it's not right to be working on an essentially finished body.

I also just ordered a brass "tone bar" from Taipan Tone - to cover up the absolutely horrendous job I did of positioning the ferrules on the back. Lined up perfect - spacing completely off. Live and learn.

More soon.

Still can't get a hold of him though (e-mail should be instant IMHO) - my wife's going to give birth in less than 10 days! (says the OB) I need to finish this!

So, do I finish it and temporarily install the ferrules so I can sound test it, or do I wait for the tonebar?

And the reviews on the clear fill (Stewmac) are terrible - so I have mahogany (burnt orange) right now - do I use that? Or do I order Ebony from Stewmac? I need to finish this! I'm leaning towards the finish using the mahog grain fill, and install the ferrules for now, rout it when the tonebar arrives (despite the finish).

No taipan? No tonebar? No problem.

Handscrew + 3/8" roundover bit + 3/4" x 3/4" x 3" ebony block I made for my daughter (there's a dozen, she won't miss one) = Ebony tonebar.

Will be very careful drilling this one.

I love the streaking. (Helped with a little mineral spirits).

Maybe I need a piloted bit.

If you don't have the means, I can make you one from brass, steel or aluminum.... :dontknow:

But I like the ebony idea, will look sweet with the padouk...And a piloted bit would be advised.....something like a forsnter a spade or a split point drill bit... :icon_thumright:
