favorite bass player?

Jaco Pastorius! :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

i am also a pretty big fan of Billy Sheehan's work with Steve Vai, and with Niacin.

Tony Franklin and Michael Manring are also my favorites.

Oh, there's on I forgot.

Stu Hamm, the guy is phenomenal...He's Joe Satriani's bass player...

I'll skip the legends and talk about some underdogs.  Jared Warren of Melvins and Big Business kicks major ass.  I also like Tim Commerford of Rage.

I'm all about Geddy , I've record - copied Rush for years . Sex is way over-rated in comparison !

FUN,FUN,FUN  :headbang1:

John Entwistle! Can't believe Dangerous R6 is the only other one so far to mention him. I really think if it wasn't for him you wouldn't have 95% of the other people mentioned. I also love Mark Egan, and Fernando Saunders (Lou Reed), and James Jamerson.

It's been my experience that most real bassists are less competitive, and more fans of each other (as compared to the guitarist mentality). As both a player and a fan - it's the mood I'm in as to what I may listen to. I've had the pleasure of meeting/hanging with, and being in the presence (a couple of times) of a room of formidable players. It's always been more like a gathering of long lost friends that love what the other does and has been up to. As for picking ONE favorite? Silly...

Paul McCartney is probably my number one... "With A Little Help From My Friends" has gotta be my favorite bass line ever.

I can't believe nobody has said Robert Deleo:

Another one of my absolute favorites, amazing bassist. By all means skip the weird intro and go to about 35 seconds in.

AND TIM COMMERFORD! He's definitely got my favorite bass SOUND.

Robertino Pagliari, with OHM. As with guitarists, I think it ultimately comes down to their writing and composing, and he's all tied up in the compositions. Like my new fave guitarist Oz Noy, there's nothing good on YouTube, but his MySpace page has a few good tunes off assorted OHM CD's.

Other than that, the usual = Squire, Lesh, Clarke, Dave LaRue etc.

Yeah, I meant to add him. I thought about it when I'd left.

Agree.  I love the GROWL he gets in "Tire Me."

Also, he's got the best tattoos of any bassist ever.  And these days, the best pigtails.

Excellent find Blue, Stu's amazing bass player..I had the opportunity to see them live at the HOB in LA. And was just inches away from the stage, and just stood there mezmorized at what I was hearing coming from this guys bass. This guy was playing a melody of an intro to a song and the bass line at the same time... :icon_scratch:

Geddy has always been my fav. A couple that I didn't notice mentioned here are Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) and Justin Chancellor (TOOL).

Edit - Well never mind, I see Thumb and R6 already mentioned them now.
