Hi guys,  still no word from Doug. I visit his shop Friday,  so hopefully I can get some pics then.
     This pic is a method I am going to try to incorporate into my " Def Leppard " Union Jack bass.  Using end grain as the top surface as opposed to laminated panels in the Van Halen stratocaster.  Reason for that , when you glue your "panels" or "blocks" together,  you are utilizing the side surface  of the lumber where better gluing will take place. 
       Keep in mind I learned a very valuable lesson on the Van Halen stratocaster.  Those small cracks are a potential problem in the future of the guitar so I am trying to avoid that process a second time.
      With everything glued in blocks with side grain exposed,  good glue "lock" should be achieved.
