I love cats too...

not really.  :toothy10:

I had a Manx cat years ago that used to love to tease big dogs and then when they chased him he would fillet their face.
Was funny to see German Shepherds running down the street with tails between their legs howling with pain.

I remember when I was a kid, our first Siamese used to have a German Shepherd nemesis. Poor thing really just wanted to be friendly, but Sheba would just shred that poor dog up every time it came on the property. You'd think it would learn, but it never did. First time it happened, my mother was terrified that the dog was gonna eat the cat, but after the dog went running and she came back in the house with blood on her, Mum was cleaning her up and realized it wasn't her blood, it was the dog's.

Of course, we weren't under any illusions that the dog would have would have won in a fair fight, but Sheba was a Siamese. It was never fair <grin>

saw this on a news website the other day. one day this cat will die by alligator, but tell me it doesn't have some balls!

Hehe! That's funny.

Being carnivorous predators, cats are pretty intelligent, confident and highly aware animals who are capable of inflicting some real damage when they can/need to. They definitely know when to hold 'em, and when to fold 'em. I wouldn't worry too much about one getting eaten by an alligator, although I'm sure stranger things have happened.

It's part of what makes them fun to have around. Trying to outwit them is a constant source of entertainment if you want it. Of course, many (if not most) domestic cats are so spoiled that they lose all their edge, but still. There's a certain amount of instinct they never lose and it can be fairly easily exploited for fun.

I live by the river and it is not uncommon to see coyotes wandering the area looking for pets to snatch early in the morning
there have been a bunch of toy dogs go missing over the years but most cats are smarter than the Coyotes. Oh they get the fat ones, the old one and the sick ones, but a cat in it's prime is a hard thing to capture if they do not want to be caught.

Cats are agile, no question about that. I used to watch one locally who'd chase down rabbits. It was amazing to see. Cats seem to have an instinct for vector math.

Lili appeared in this shot of my Warmoth being assembled, Didn't have the heart to shew her away because she was purring. She's just a purr machine, and she don't purr for ........:

BIg jaws need big kick, I guess...
Seems like she is a blue cat! I just love blue cats!

My cats are calming down, but it's weird... As they were really bad treated on the streets, they're fearfull and a fast move can make then frightened...
I believe they will take a lot of time to feel safe as "normal" cats feel, but I believe they will make that time worth the while for giving him a good life... :)

My wife likes snuggle cats, I like mine coming from outdoor stock. I mainly play with them outside in the yard. I also think the wilder ones rat better, I live in an area where the house are all over 100 years old and we do have mice and rats. So naturally I like a cat that works for it's keep.
The two I have right now are litter mates and they are like a team. I think the next set I pick out will be the same, it is funny watching them hunt birds and stuff like a den, one circles while the other lines up for the attack, when the bird jumps circling one is there to get it. They also tag team their friend who come over in the same way, some days I can have 5 cats in the front yard wrestling.

My cat will hunt, but she's more of a sportsman. Catch n release. Crickets, frogs (but not toads - they must taste bad), spiders. When she was a tiny kitten she ate a wasp before I could stop her. Biggest thing she's ever brought me was a RABBIT. Single bite to the back of the head. Girl #1 Don't kill stuff that big for sport, #2 thems better eating that the kibble you normally get. She's really hating apartment life.

it's true, cats would make great linebackers. my dad had a cat who would hunt voles in his yard AND climb trees. no front claws. always thought that was pretty impressive. it was really funny to watch him climb a tree :icon_biggrin: he had to kind of bear-hug it as he went up and kick with his back feet. could only climb skinny trees. smart cat! didn't make any friends with the birds there though.

I didn't have time to read the whole thread. but i just wanted to say  :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: to the cats. Every guitar forum i've been on seems to have the same thing going too.
I love cats. When I lived in NYC I volunteered at a cat shelter every week, just to make up for the fact that i didn't have one at home. Then one day I was going ot the cornerstore and it was pouring outside and I found this inside a cardboard box:

I'd try to explain what her personality is like, but it's just too much for one sitting. She's a handful to say the least. She'll go out, disappear for two days, come back with roughed up, eat a ton of food, and then sleep for an entire day. I want to get her a t-shirt that says "Yeah. Well you should see the other guy."

and this here is my life partner:

I've noticed the same thing on computer tech forums. It seems you have to have a certain amount of understanding of mysterious things in order to appreciate cats.

This is my cat, Little Fatty.  She follows me incessantly and waits by the door when I go outside.  Responds to her name like a dog would.

:laughing11: sounds like my cat. he waits at the door and meows whenever i leave until i come back inside, and i can call him from anywhere in the house. he's a strange cat.

True dat. Here's my little pal...

Got him from the Humane Society back in '99 - and he's still as spry and active as ever. Every time I bring
out his favorite ribbon he'll do backflips and other aerial acrobatics chasing it around.  :)

And well (s)he should be. They can do a lot of damage in a hurry, and necessarily so since they're carnivorous predators. You never want to mess with an angry/hungry cat or its territory - it's a good way to get hurt. People forget, because cats will pretend to be friendly, that they're meat-eaters and they want their prey fresh and bloody. They're well capable of taking down prey much larger than themselves because they can inflict deadly wounds.

Fun stuff, really. You're sorta flirtin' with disaster having a cat around. But, if you can get it to tolerate you, they can be great playmates and they don't hurt their "siblings".
