Building my first body.

I know it isn't much, but would the neckplate recess be enough to have issues with the neck screws being too deep?

:icon_scratch: IF that was an issue, then just cut the screws to the correct length  :icon_biggrin:

Oh man thats a great match up  :icon_thumright: ........... just simply awesome  :o

Whats the pickup rout to be ?
              or
Is it going to be an air guitar  :icon_jokercolor:

Today's work was doing the trem stud pilots, the trem block route, and the spring cavity route.

I decided to reduce the size of my StewMac templates, since they are needlessly wide on the bass side of the trem block. I didn't start taking pictures until the trem spring cavity routing, but I got plenty of good pics. :blob7:

Here is my MDF template, compared with the StewMac template.

I shortened the trem block template about half and inch, as well.
This gives a much better aesthetic from the back side.

Routing.

The finished route. (In my transferring of the chipped trem block template to MDF, the chips sort of got magnified and left me with a wavy wall of the route, on the part below the spring cavity where the trem block will pass through. I'll try to file this out perfectly straight, it shouldn't be a problem to fix.)

I was quite upset before that the best part of the curl would be routed out for the spring cavity. Fortunately, I've still got plenty of great curl!

I was hoping to have Bubinga on the bottom of the recess, but the lam top just wasn't thick enough, and a 5/16" recess went into the Maple, so I'll be dying the recess cavity black.

Looks bad ass 6man, all but the recess, shoulda went with non-recess. But that's just my .02... :dontknow:

Those Floyd designs are a pretty big chunk of machinery; I can't imagine having one sitting on top would be comfortable. I gotta think that's why most people recess them. Gets at least some of the thing out of the way.

The big hole is just too unsightly to me, it's no more obtrusive than any other bridge, so your point is moot. But as I said, it's just my .02..

What is the point of having a trem that won't pull up? I know you can sort of make a Floyd float by tilting it up in the "normal pitch" position, and I do that with my Strat bridge, but a proper trem should be recessed. :blob7:

Leaving the Maple may distract from the lam top and bring attention to the recess. I'd rather keep it subtle.

It does look pretty big in the pic. :blob7:

You mean the maple line on the side??? Because if you think it will take the attention from the Bubinga, no way! It will only be seen in close view...

No, the Maple in the tremolo recess cavity.

I think a recessed tremolo rout that is NOT dyed or painted ..... looks un-finished to me :sad1:

Glad your painting it  :toothy10:
Any guitar I see like that is the 1st thing I notice and the eyes  :glasses9: seem to get drawn to that point of un-finished / raw woodwork.

I agree. Shouldn't have raw wood showing on a finished body. Makes it look unfinished, as if it was just thrown together in a hurry.

Yeah, seeing people leave their Warmoth bodies' trem cavities unfinished is one of my pet peeves.  It looks terrible, especially with solid finishes over Alder/Ash.

Even if you have no finishing experience, it's not difficult, nor expensive, nor time consuming to give the raw wood a coat of paint or dye.

What about dying the cavity something transparent to match the bubinga but still see wood grain?  You could always still go black if it didn't quite work...

+1, I don't know how it would be done, but I think straight black just looks tacky.

Otherwise, this is looking awesome!
