Got enough clamps there on the wall?
you should see my collection on my welding table rack, I have so many clamps my wife accuses me of not liking to weld but to collect clamps, but truth be known, you can never have enough clamps

I dream of being able to do wood work like that. if I could, I would be so proud I would stain it so every joint was visible and could be admired.

You're not giving yourself enough credit. Anybody who can weld and does it well enough to need a table and a generous pile of clamps exhibits several qualities:
  • You can see in 3 dimensions
  • You can think in the abstract
  • You can visualize the end results of your actions, and
  • You can predict the future.
The only thing you're missing to be a good woodworker is the proper tools and a pile of mistakes under your bench <grin>

I could say, the only thing it takes to learn to weld is a pile of mistakes and having burned your hands bad a few times

Well, only took two months, but the speaker cabinets are done!!!  Going to start on the amp head enclosure next week.  That is going to look insane.  Found some spalted oak to use.  Thanks for all the nice comments guys.  This has been a fun project.  Can't wait to get the amp head finished up and really see what these things can do!  Tried it thru one speaker last night (head is currently wired 8ohm out, and the speakers are 8ohm Weber blue dogs) and it sounded sweet.  Going to wire it up this weekend to run a single 8 or both cabs at 4ohm load.  After that, I want to build a higher wattage head to possibly gig with

The detail in the rear panel is over the top, much less the fronts. I love it. It is uber insane.

Thanks man!  I spent a few hours one night designing different back panels.  Had some that were more elaborate, but in the end decided on this one.  I wanted the back to be as sexy as the front

Those are gorgeous! 'Tis a fine job you've done there, Mr. JDTele.

Have you weighed them yet?

I have not weighed them, but they are really not bad to carry.  I am used to a 4x10 Hotrod Deville, and Egnater Tourmaster though  LOL

In that case, these gotta be quite a relief from those. But, I can't imagine you'd be taking these out very often. They look like fine furniture. No matter how gingerly you treat them... well, you know how that goes <grin>

Yeah, these definately won't be "Bar Gig" cabs.  Will likely spend most of their life in my basement toy room  :)

Can I come over and hear them?  I promise I won't steal them when you're not looking :evil4:

LOL.  Saved all the templates and jigs that I made to construct these incase I ever want to do more.  The only thing I would do different, would be to make a better finger joint jig.

Progress made on the amp head this weekend.  Polished and drilled a new case (hard to take good pics of polished pieces in a dark basement)

Before, with a few mis-guided holes and scars

After, much cleaner and new aluminum knobs

The start of the cabinet to house the amp head.  I had never seen spalted oak before now.  Going to look SWEET with a coat of varnish!  Went with a smaller finger joint on these...

It's gonna be way cool!

What are those tubes? Are you using 12AX7s for the power stage as well as the preamp? Is that a custom design, or is there a schematic somewhere I could see?

They are 2 12ax7's and a 12au7.  The design is from AX84.com.  It is the Firefly schematic

I built mine using a circuit board that used to be printed by a guy named John Calhoun.  You can now buy them thru another outfit, and they list everything you will need to order from Mouser and Antique Electronics to finish it.
