Building an amp!

Yup...going to do the cutout with a jigsaw, and clean it up on the drum sander.  The front is not mounted yet.  Just sitting there for the photos.  Once the hole is cut, I want to router the edge  to match the radius on the sides of the box.  After the boxes are assembled and varnished, I will attach speaker cloth from the inside to cover the hole and keep my son from poking at the speaker cones when I am not looking  LOL

Good plan. That'll look great.

You probably already know this but drum sanding after a jigsaw cut is a time-consuming and error-prone pain in the ass that could be avoided with a fairly inexpensive circle cutting jig for your router. Problem is it requires a center you don't have there unless you want to build up a jig for that, too.

That was my other thought.  Make a jig for the router and cut them with that.  Would definately make a better cut.  I'll look into it more once the other panel is glued up.  Thanks for the input!

Especially if you're going to round over the holes and leave them exposed. If the circle isn't perfect, you're going to see all sorts of ripples in the round-over where the pilot bearing hits irregularities. You could sand those out, but now you're throwing good time after bad and making a career out of an 11" hole <grin>

It's only money, right  LOL.  Just placed my order for a pair of Weber AlNico Blue Dogs  :headbang:  Anyone know of a good source for black tight weave speaker cloth?

Never done business with them, but the prices look good.

Still been working on the amp, but been sanding, sanding, and doing some more sanding lately so haven't had much to share. Last night I got the circles cut in the speaker baffles, and made some walnut and cherry quarter round to trim the front. After looking at each, I am think the walnut will show the best contrast. Going to finish designing the back jack plate panel tonight and hopefully get those made yet this week and then the final sanding and assembly can begin! Speakers should be here any day now too...

Here a piece of walnut quarter round we made and cut to fit to see how it would look

I did use a circle router to cut the holes, per your suggestion.  I had a buddy who had one he let me borrow

Works out well, doesn't it? Nice and round. Plus, it's repeatable, and it makes it easy to dress the edges if you want/need to.

Yup!  Built a jig to clamp the baffles in to, and routered.  Took longer to build the jig than cut the holes.  Did a round over on the outer edge too.

Designed the back baffle/jack plate last night.  Didn't want to just slap a piece of oak on there to mount the jack plate to.  I cut it out of cardboard and taped some speaker cloth in to see how it would look before cutting it.

I see you are in the land of collapsing stadiums as well.  I'm in Rosemount.

Nice. So we have Hastings, Rosemount, and Burnsville - MN represent!

Haha, Arden Hills (Bethel University) and/or North Branch/Chisago/Lindstrom/Stacy/Center City (hometown . . . I live in the country, so all those towns are pretty much 20 mins away).

Come hear me play for Vespers service in Bethel's Benson Great Hall. Sunday nights, 8:00pm and 10:00pm services. Same set for both, but for some reason, the 10:00 packs out way more and is more "rockin".  :headbang:

I don't own a W yet, but I do have a Hammond B with a Leslie 122. (hence the  "B3Guy username).

I've heard rumor the new Vikes stadium might go in right here near Bethel, but IDK.

From cardboard, to wood.  My vision takes life!!  These were the last pieces to make.  from here it is just some more sanding, assembly, then finishing!  Speakers will be here monday, so hopefully get the final sanding and first coat of finish on this weekend.  Sorry for the poor quality photos...only had my phone with last night.  I have not sanded these at all yet, so the router burn in the picture will disappear
