I noticed that on double lam top bodies you used to be able to choose mahogany/mahogany for the double lam top, but no longer. Does anyone know why and can I still order that option by calling?

Most Lam Tops are created in "bookmatch" fashion.  so unless you got figured or exotic wood patterns that to do it , there not much reason to do it with same body woods .

so figured mahogany I believe they only got some stocks at one time, not always can get it continuously. so when the stocks run out , so it stop for availability.

but you can try ask .

The option is there for some bodies (eg Mooncaster, Velocity), but not for others (eg Regal, Soloist). It could be that the carve on some bodies includes tighter curves that don't suit all woods. It could just be a 'characteristic' of the builder. As Hendrix says, give Warmoth a shout via email or phone to check.

Well I know for a fact that until very recently (I've been tinkering with the regal builder for months) that it was an option. This sucks I guess I'll call warmoth when and if I'm ready

Give them a call. I know I've seen mahogany on mahogany bodies in the showcase not long ago. They tinker with the website here and there or something may be up that you deserve an answer about as a customer.

Toat: you can order what you want by calling. Please do so when you are ready!

To address the larger question: I'm sure many of you are wondering why the options for DL tops are inconsistent from model to model. The truth is, there are myriad manufacturing concerns that are incredibly tough to wrangle and encapsulate in a way that makes sense to customers on the website.

For example, did you know that Mahogany doesn't even have to be a Double Lam? We can easily do it with a single piece, no binding required. On the other hand, figured Maple tops must always be DL tops with binding. Like Mahogany, Black Korina and Alder can be one-piece, no binding. Swamp Ash can theoretically be the same, but we have found it works best as a DL top, due to it's characteristic when sanding. However, if you want a Unique Choice Lam Top on any of those woods, they must be a DL top with binding. Also, certain bodies like the Carved Top Tele and Carved Top Velocity don't need a LamTop at all. They can be cut from a solid blank. That is...unless you want a Unique Choice top, in which case they must be DL Tops. Oh...and in certain cases Maple top can be a single piece with no binding too, depending on what kind of Maple it is.

You think this is complicated? I'm just getting started......

Oh...also: these "rules" are subject to change at any time, depending on what wood we have in the shop, and how we feel we can make the best use of it.

So, how do you explain all this to customers in an understandable way? The web team does our best, but sometimes we just have to shoot for the average. Inconsistencies in the web options abound, because inconsistencies in our manufacturing concerns abound. It's not laziness or incompetence on anybody's part. It's simply the nature/challenge of dealing with an organic/ever-changing raw material.

The one rule that remains consistent, always: if you want something, and you don't see it on the website, call us. We want to make it for you, and we will if we can.

You've been looking at the code for the new site, haven't you.  :eek:ccasion14:

You guys don't know how many nights I've lain awake, thinking how awesome it would be if the web choices were just a la cart. Pick your ice cream, then pick your toppings.

Instead, it's more like this:

Ice Cream Flavors
    Vanilla
    Chocolate
    Cookie Dough
    Chocolate Chip
    Mint Chocolate Chip
    Rocky Road

Marshmallow
Available on all flavors, except Rocky Road

Caramel
Only on Vanilla or Cookie Dough

Whipped Cream
Available on all flavors, except Mint Chocolate Chip if you chose Caramel

Chocolate Sauce
Only available Vanilla, or Cookie Dough if you chose Caramel and Whipped Cream, but not if you chose Caramel and Marshmallow.

Chocolate Sprinkles
Only available if you chose whipped cream, but did not choose Chocolate Sauce or Carmel

Pecans
Only Vanilla or Cookie Dough if you chose Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sauce, or chose Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sprinkles. Available on all other flavors with our without Whipped Cream, unless you choose Caramel as your only topping.

Peanuts
Same as Pecans, unless you chose Pecans.

Bananas
Available on all flavors except Rocky Road and Mint Chocolate Chip, unless you chose them with Caramel and Marshmallows. Actually, Rocky Road already has Marshmallows in it, so you just need to choose Caramel for that flavor if you want to add Bananas.

Cherry On Top
Available on Flavors, if you chose whipped cream.

Oh wait....your want your Ice Cream in a bowl instead of a Cone?

Crap! There is no way to account for that.

This post should be a sticky somewhere - very useful to know.

Does this mean that the carved top Tele is still available at (or closer to) the old, much lower price when ordered without a lam top?

Nope, not necessarily. What's on the website now is our current standard offering. Anything else is off-menu...even if it is something we used to offer on the standard menu. You would have to call and see if 1) we will still do it, and 2) how much the current price is.
