Buffing. What to use

I highly recommend the Makita 9227c, as Cagey mentioned above.. but if you don't want to spend the cash on that you can turn any random orbit sander or oscillating multi tool into a workable polisher.

When polishing small areas like a pickguard for instance I use my fein oscillating multitool with a microfiber polishing cloth wrapped around the end of an old sawblade that I filed the teeth off of.  This prevents the problem cagey mentioned above where a rotary polisher like the Makita wants to throw your workpiece around..

I'd also highly recommend getting the 3M heavy duty polishing compound.. it cuts much faster than the regular stuff which you can get at any automotive place.
