Black & White Jazzmaster with Modern Vibrato & Curly Roasted Maple Neck

That's a very curly roasted Maple. Camera doesn't really do it justice - in real life the thing is just magical. Move it around and the curls move, too.

CURLY, not SWIRLY, Bagman.  :dontknow: Think Stooges.  No one ever gave Curly Stooge a swirly, he was a badass with pliers on your nose.  You know you got a good piece when they post a 3/4 profile view at Warmoth.

I'd like to know how they get that figuring to show up in those pics. I must have taken a dozen shots of my own of that neck, and not a one of them showed it off worth a damn. That's why I used their shots.

I dummied it up in the builder, and it was only less than great because the white of the body wasn't as white as mine's gonna be.

Hey Cagey, when you did this, what builder are you talking about?  I only know the one Kisekae VIM.  Is that what you used?

No, the one on the Warmoth sales site. It's limited in that it only works for certain bodies, and only goes so far. Can't install hardware or attach a neck, for instance. But, you can configure a body, put a finish on it, and add a pickguard with the appropriate holes/cutouts.

Perhaps it had water or naphtha on it to show its chatoyance for the camera.

Hadn't thought of that. I doubt it would be water, but naphtha makes sense.

Apologies for the discombobulating effect.

Seriously though chatoyance is not that unusual a word when it comes to wood. Easily looked up for meaning.  :rock-on:

Some progress...

A few coats of sanding/sealer, sanding (400 grit) between coats, then a few coats of white nitro, also sanding between coats. Tomorrow, more white and get started on the clear coats.

Necroposting here, but in review I noticed I was remiss in progress shots, as well as a completed one. I don't have any progress shots, but this is how it ended up...

Damn Kevin, 4 1/2 months between posts, I thought I was slow!

Though I must say, seeing how that neck looks with the finished body, it was worth the wait!

Does she play and sound as good as she looks?

Oh, yes. Plays like a dream. I don't goof around when it comes to neck setups, and that Babicz is a fine piece of hardware. Doesn't sound anything like a Jazzmaster, though  :laughing7:

Hehe! Yeah, well, it was in the GOM thing and I sorta forgot about this thread moving on to other things.

Can't believe I missed this one...very cool...

But yes, sometimes water is used to bring out the grain as well as solvents such as naptha. As long as it's not saturated for too long it won't hurt.

It's good that you brought this thread back to life. That's a fine instrument. Thumbs-up. :glasses10:
