anyone here heard of the Danish band "Volbeat"?

Nice, I could definately hear the Elvis and Metallica idea haha.

If they come to england again i might give it a go.

I got turned on to them a few months ago.  Keeping my eyes open for dates here in Germany (or close by).  Would love to go see them.

I just saw them last week...

They're not bad live, but they didn't really impress me.. maybe it was because I was still processing the disappointment of just hearing that Lemmy was sick and not playing that night.

They actually opened for Metallica when they played here a couple of years ago. There's definitely a little Danzig in there too.  :icon_thumright:

If Elvis came back from Graceland ( ;) ) and was asked to sing for Metallica, this is what we'd get:

Gee and all this time   I thought Elvis was here .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bULLwt6cRvI&feature=fvst

EMI has blocked that video in the US. Apparently, they're against free advertising and promotion of their artists.

As with so many of the major record companies, an adjustment to their viewpoint would require a proctologist.

Would you like some Justin Bieber instead?  :laughing7:

I would honestly rather listen to JB than Volbeat.  I can NOT stand the voice of Volbeat's singer.  I classify him in that same category with Serge Tankian.

Yeah. I wish Apple would buy them and put their entire backlist on iTunes for $.05/title. People would flock to them in droves and they'd probably get their money back in a week or less, and it would destroy the recording divisions of WB, Sony and the rest of those misguided idiots, which could then be bought for $.05 on the dollar as well. It would end all this "piracy" litigation silliness once and for all.

Interestingly, I heard a report on NPR yesterday (I forget which program) that took a look at where a lot of the big tech companies make their money, and it turns out iTunes is actually a fairly small segment of the dough Apple makes.  It's really all these high-margin widgets like iPads, etc., manufactured with the lowest cost skilled labor available.  So EMI might make some money even at a nickel a tune, but when push comes to shove, Apple won't make that much as a percentage of overall revenue.

The iTunes thing has been a subject of speculation for years, with most of those who should be in the know saying Apple clears about 30 points/title on iTunes, which isn't bad money but pales in comparison to what the RIAA pulls down (70%) for doing absolutely nothing on those very same sales. Still, it is as you say - not a serious profit center for Apple, just a way to support iPods, iPads, iPhones, etc.

That's why I say it would be fun for Apple to buy one the major labels and start nearly giving their stuff away. The expense probably wouldn't impact their bottom line much, and whatever the cow cost it would come back fast. Then they (and the rest of the world) could watch the monsters rot.

Yep, I sure do.  I lost the entire box set, then I couldn't help but to get it again.  Then, I got home and said to myself, "Oops, I did it again..."  :icon_jokercolor:

its ok, Metal isn't for everyone... :icon_thumright:
Barney Greenway (from Napalm Death) does some guest vocals on Volbeat's song "Evelyn"
(for the sensitive listeners, I think Paulsen drops an eff-bomb from the stage, just warnin' ya...)
