Am I jumping the gun....?

So after much deliberation and suggestions, I contacted Ken at Roadhouse and purchased a neck humbucker for my baby, which I am excited about.  I had a couple requests that he was happy to fulfill and the pickup should be coming soon.

The day I ordered it I removed the 59 I had there, so its just a hole waiting for the Triple Crown...I suppose I did jump the gun.

On the other hand, being forced to play with just one pickup has shown me how cool that AT1 really is.

Thanks again, Ken.  It was a pleasure to deal with you and I'm looking forward to the pickup.  My guitar may well be all the way "done" at last. :hello2:

+1 on dealing wtih Ken. I'm sure you're going to be very pleased with what he makes for you. I have yet to hear mine, but the build quality is superb. If what everyone else says about the tone is true, this is gonna be one badass pup.

Cagey - how many unfinished guitars are you up to, now?  :redflag:

You are not required to answer....

Too many. 4? But, in my defense, I work on other people's stuff first and I have plenty of completed guitars so there's no urgency. Plus, there's like 12 cases of beer in the closet and a couple in the fridge. And all that Internet porn won't download itself. Finally, there's the fact that my laziness knows no bounds and I have the attention span of a butterfly.

+1, just got mine from Ken for my aluminum strat, and they are outta this world cool. Ain't plugged them in yet, but as Cagey said, they build quality is top notch. :icon_thumright:

So from all these quotes, I'm to understand that you all have Ken's custom pups and they're topnotch (TOPNOTCH!), but none of you know how they sound. Teases.

Correct... Many more here on the UW have pups from Ken, and have had high praises for them..

Yeah, I see plenty of posts when I did a search, and have checked the site and think I might give it a go on my next project since you guys have good things to say. I was just looking for a soundclip of something someone had done custom. Guess I'll just wait for yours, R6.

I have a pair of Ken's Roadhouse True Blue P90's and I actually have heard them.  And they sound really, really good.  Very much what you'd hope for in a P90 - a heavier, more bass-to-mid-rangey sound than you generally associate with single-coils, but not mushy - very articulate.  And they are extremely reflective of what you're doing to the strings - hit them hard, and they really beat the hell out the amp's preamp stage - but go light on them, and things clean up nicely without having to fool with the volume knob at all.  I can't speak knowledgeably about his Strat-style pups, but I'd order 'em if I were in the market based on how happy I am with the P90's.

Thanks Bagman. I can tell from the knowledgeable opinions of people here who it's obvious know what they're talking about (you know who you are), that Ken makes quality stuff, but I like info details like that. If nothing else, it helps me figure out how to describe the sounds I'm trying to get out that I hear in my head. The guitar tone, not the voices- they're not talking to me, and I can't understand them anyway because they're speaking japanese.

Jump the gun?

I've been playing my Ibanez semi-solid with only a bridge PU for a couple of weeks while I wait for a GFS exchange. Bridge PU going straight to the output jack, no tone or volume knobs. It's kind of liberating.

Good luck with your new PUPs

I can't get over how cool the neck humbucker sounds that I have from Ken.  The bridge is a great bridge pickup and was the sound I wanted, but the neck...  Slank tone fun.  If you have one of those greasy open low e string runs, the one he built me just kills it.
