am I going to like the Wizard as much as my Jackson Dinky neck?

My favorite neck right now is my Jackson Dinky neck. What I like about the Dinky neck is its super thin, plays fast and has a smooth finish. Would a Wizard with a jet black ebony fingerboard and a solid gloss finish feel as nice or better than the Dinky? Are there any others who have both necks who can compare contrast the two?  Thanks.

I think you should go with the standard thin option. I have an Ibanez and a Jackson and the Wizard feels a lot thinner than my Jackson's neck. Other members could tell you more about it.

Well... gloss != smooth in my experience. Consider a satin finish, or even better an unfinished exotic neck like canary, bubinga or bloodwood (depending on what sound you're after).

be aware that exotic woods tend to be heavier, but they still feel slick and smooth. Gloss will slow you down, so if you must have a finish, SATIN FTW!!!

One word, Wenge.  Very fast, nice amount of mids to cut through.  No Finish required, and a look that is both exotic and endearing.

I want to say one word to you.  Just one word.  Are you listening?  Wenge.

Enough bad references to the Graduate, but seriously, it is great stuff.  Ask the bass players, they've been hoarding the Wenge secret for years.

Yeah, definetly go with the clear Satin nitro if you want a finish thats just like the Dinky.

I have both necks and they are very similar in profile.  You would have to measure to tell the difference...if there is any.

As far as finish...I like the gloss.  If you want to closer replicate the Dinky...go satin.  Either way..with the satin, after a lot of playing, it will shine up in areas of heavy use.

I just assumed that the finish on my Dinky neck was glossy. Is it really satin? How can I tell? (sorry, I'm no expert on finishes..)

glossy is REAL SHINY...satin is not...almost raw feeling...maybe this helps

here's my telecaster. you can see that even with the sun behind the guitar the neck has really no shine to it at all. i love the feel! my hands will sometimes sweat when i'm playing and a glossy neck just gets slippery and gross, and sticky if they aren't cleaned well afterwards. the satin hasn't given me a problem yet.

Your Tele is a relatively new build and with time and frequent use, that Satin finished neck will turn glossy.  If it doesn't, you have the only one in existence.

I have both Jackson Dinky's and 2 Warmoth wizards, and they are pretty damn close to each other, it would be hard to tell the difference if blindfolded. And go satin or get a exotic that requires no finish and PLAY IT RAW..... :headbang1:

yep, definitely will. i'm kind of hoping that by the time it gets to the glossy stage that i've got the finish somewhat thin at that point. i don't put my guitars through a whole lot of stress so i bet it'll be a while before you can tell any difference. anyway that picture should give you a decent idea of what your neck would look like new

If you have one of the newer Dinky's with the thicker neck, go with standard thin.  If you have an early to mid 90's Dinky, most of those necks are as thin as the Ibanez Wizard, then I would go with the Wizard profile.  For whatever reason, the Jackson necks from the early to mid 90's are quite a bit thinner than the newer ones.
