am I going to like the Wizard as much as my Jackson Dinky neck?

My new Wizard neck shipped out today. Its going on a Strat body. Figured maple, Rosewood, 6100 frets Schaller holes and a white tusq nut. I bought mine unfinished.
I'm going to use a clear gloss poly by Minwax to finish it. I used it on another neck as well. Its awesome to look at and its a slick as new ice and its tuff stuff. 3 hours between coats, oooo steel wool. 4-5 coats then give it  24 hours to dry. You can buy it at any Home Depot.
Great stuff. Looking forward to the wizard neck.. I like them thin now. So much more I can do with my medium sized hands..

If you have one of the newer Dinky's with the thicker neck, go with standard thin.  If you have an early to mid 90's Dinky, most of those necks are as thin as the Ibanez Wizard, then I would go with the Wizard profile.  For whatever reason, the Jackson necks from the early to mid 90's are quite a bit thinner than the newer ones.

the nuts are wider too I beleive on the new ones

that's what she said...

I used minwax clear gloss spray poly too.  VERY NICE finish with a similar feel to my WARMOTH gloss poly neck.

Minwax recomends 45 minutes to a 1 hour flash time between coats.  I have let it sit for as much as 24 hours, but just needed to give it a scuff before adding coats.  Just follow the directions on the can and you cannot go wrong.

I used 6-8 coats, dried for 48 hours, hit with 2000 grit and some 0000 steel wool.  I like to use steel wool on necks because it forms to the shape so well.  After sanding and steel wool, I cleaned with Naptha really well and let that sit for 24 hours.  I them hit with some high grade polish...automotive stuff works great!

Good luck

I had used a shami on Minwax poly.. The spary sounds like a better way to go. So:
1. spray it on
2. wait an hour and repeat..4-6 times
3. sand with 2000 wet
4. steelwool with 0000
5. clean with naptha
6. wax it
Am I missing anything?

6th step is not a WAX...it is a polish...not to be confused was the sausage. :laughing11:
Go to your local Pep Boys or automotive and get a good quality fine scratch remover polish...that will do the trick.

Also...if it is a rosewood, ebony or other natural wood fret board...do not forget to mask that off.
