Some people believe that it's best to have some part of your guitar body unfinished so it can "breath" and age better. Whether or not it makes a difference is unknown by me.

I can't actually figure how that should have an effect on the entire body. Perhaps just the part of the body that is "naked"..?

well maybe its like celery, if you dip one end in food dye the entire thing changes color, im assuming something similar to that
