5 strings Deluxe J - sort of...

I've had this bass in the back of my mind for quite a while and decided to give it a go. My good friend Bernie Hamburger of Las Vegas made it possible. He built the neck for me according to my specs and did all the modifications and routing on the body. The result is amazing. It sounds like a sophisticated, modern Jazzbass. Punchy, full range of frequencies, versatile. Love it!

-Body by Warmoth - Deluxe V, swamp ash. Ordered unfinished with no routing at all except neck pocket. Paint job by Marty Bell of California, inspired by Warmoth's "dragonburst" finish.
-Neck built by Bernie. 34.5 scale at the E string, birdseye maple neck and fretboard, 22 frets, pretty flat radius, headstock designed by both of us. Headstock and fretboard satin lacker, back of neck oiled.
-Hipshot Ultralite 3/8 tuners, Badass V bridge strings thru body, EMG 40HZ passive pickups, East J-Retro Deluxe preamp, plate removed.

Absolutely stunning .... very Sadowsky-ish.

Nice work on your version of the contoured heel as well!

Thanks AndyG. We plugged the original screw holes of course.

The headstock is inspired by Lakland for tuners position. We rounded off the shape.

Where did you get those knobs?

Those look like the knobs that came with the East preamp. He said he removed the preamp from the control plate.
