    Rumpelstiltskin Pickups - WOW

I got a set of his pre-CBS strat pickups wound 2.5% hot at the end of May and I am also very happy with them with them.  While I needed only about 3 or 4 emails to get what I was looking for, Aaron was very helpful.  He also gets a lot of positive mentions on the Fender Discussion Pages...

    Alternate Tele 4-Way Wiring

I am familiar with both Acme diagrams, but I was really hoping to find a way to do the switching in the order Series / Bridge / Parallel / Neck like in my second diagram.  If I am right about the bridge pickup case being a ground, how hard would that be?  Would I simply have to cut a jumper...

    Alternate Tele 4-Way Wiring

It's this, isn't it? The bridge pickup case grounds to the bridge, and it is a lot harder to isolate that than it is to isolate the neck pickup from the neck cover.  I hate  thinking about something for a day or two and then figuring it out 5 minutes after I post.

    Alternate Tele 4-Way Wiring

I am interested in a 4-way switching arrangement on a Tele, but I have some questions.  Here is the standard diagram in ASII art (I hope proportional fonts don't destroy this): B+:  Bridge hot B-:  Bridge ground N+:  Neck hot N-:  Neck ground O:  4-way switch lug         N+...

Choices to Warm Up a Strat, No-finish Preferred, <$300

I am starting to look at buying my first Warmoth neck, but I would like some advice. I own an American series strat with a one-piece maple neck.  I'd like to get a thicker neck on it.  I am thinking the '59 Roundback, as I am afraid the Fatback might be too thick.  While I am at it, I'd also...

Hairbrained idea for 3 single coils

My gear budget is only $40 per month, and that includes buying strings.  That means It would take me about 3  years or more to buy a new guitar of the quality I want.  Alternately I can modify my guitars 1 - 2 times a year.  That is the path I have chosen for now.  Before summer is over I should...

Hairbrained idea for 3 single coils

Actually, what if i did use a 5-way?  I would wire positions 1-4 as previously described and then leave position 5 as a open circuit.  That would give me this: Push-pull down (normal 4-way Tele plus kill): 1A) Neck only 2A) Neck & Bridge parallel (normal Tele middle position) 3A) Bridge only...

Hairbrained idea for 3 single coils

I knew that but didn't mention it because it also applies to Strats with a bridge-on switch.  I could still avoid it if I go with noiseless pickups to begin with.  What I am really interested in is whether it would work technically and what people think of the available pickup combinations.  If...

Hairbrained idea for 3 single coils

I like Tele sounds, Strat in-between sounds, and ways to get a lot of versatility from one guitar.  This got me thinking about Nashville Teles and variations on the design.  About half an hour ago I got an idea for a wiring scheme that I had never heard of before, and I'd like to see what people...

    Unusual P-90 Wirings

That was very helpful, tfarny, although I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "bayou mud".  If you threw in "bayou" just to mean "extreme, unusable mud", that is bad.  However, if you meant a Creedence Clearwater Revival type "swamp rock" tone, I could definitely have some fun with that.  I'm...

    Unusual P-90 Wirings

I have a PRS Soapbar II SE (2 P-90s, 1 Vol, 1 Tone) that I am considering upgrading with Lollar pickups.  I discovered that the Lollars and virtually all P-90 replacements use a shielded coaxial wire where the shield wire is bare.  My stock pickups have normal wires connecting them to the...

    Alder as a Neck Wood?

An alder neck would seem like an obvious thing to try for someone who wants a tone between maple and mahogany, but almost nobody offers it.  Does anyone know why this is?

Vintage tuners versus new-school locking tuners

Nobody has mentioned Sperzels yet.  I have some on my Carvin and I really like them.  How do they compare to the other locking tuners?  I have one or two other guitars I was planning to retrofit with Sperzels one day, but I'm open to other ideas.

Are there any good "noiseless" or "humbucking" tele pickups?

I have no personal experience, but I've read good things about Kinnmans (http://www.kinman.com/Shop/tele.htm).

    Help picking a no-finish neck

I hate to keep on replying to my own thread, but let me try to focus things a bit more: I've identified a few woods as options here, and I'd like to get opinions: Bocote:  Attractive, and relatively bright for a rosewood.  A good choice for a one piece? Brazilian Rosewood:  Only available for...
