    Cases for Z Bodies

I'm looking to get a Z Body, but I'm worried about finding a case to fit. It's hard to tell from photos - do they fit in a generic open cavity case? Or am I looking at something more specialised?

    Can someone identify this finish?

I've been seeing finishes similar to this in modern metal guitars recently. I'm wondering how it's achieved. There's a bigger picture of something similar here I'm assuming it's just dye over a burl of some kind, but I'm no expert. Does anyone want to weigh in on what it is?

    Seventh Circle Audio

Hah! Clearly they haven't seen my atrocious soldering or the general depth of my incompetence.

If you could add any Body/Neck Option(s) to Warmoth's selection..

I'd really like to see body thickness become an option for regular bodies, and not just SGs. Or possibly a thinner, modded Soloist, similar to an Ibanez S series.

Just ordered one of these - Ampeg SVT Vacuum Tube Direct Injection

I would suggest that already happened when they added a tube. What does the tube actually do in this DI? Is it a 12AX7?

    Brutal Legend Flying V

Good call on a leg rest for sitting down. Do you have a solution in mind? If you're searching for something, C-Shop sell (Steinberger-style) Hohner fold-out leg rests here.

    steel rods vs.graphite rods

Mass generally equates to stiffness in similar materials. Graphite rods generally provide significantly higher stiffness per gram than steel in one direction (which, luckily, is all a truss rod needs). There is no difference in tone (note that this is different to saying "you won't hear a...

LP set neck vs bolt on. A VERY SIMPLE QUESTION!!!!!

Gibson have an "Axcess" series of Les Pauls. As the name implies, those have better upper fret access than the standard ones, and it is also better than Warmoth's regular or contoured heels. Compared to the standard Les Pauls, though, Warmoth standard fret access is roughly similar and the...

    PSA on the CT LP

It's hard to imagine that it could be for legal reasons. There are many, *many* more prominent sellers of carved-top Les Paul ripoffs than Warmoth. ESP have their Eclipse series, Schecter have their Solo series, PRS have their SC series; most companies have some or other carved top mahogany...

This is why my tone is bad.

These probably make about as much difference to your tone as your fingerboard wood choice ;). Seriously, though, these might come in handy for preventing me from running over my cables with the wheels of my chair. Alternatively, I could probably just try not being a clumsy oaf.

    Pickups for a HSS setup

I'll also back up the support for EMGs. The hatred against them seems to be mostly cork-sniffing, in my opinion; they just sound like regular pickups, only a little clearer and less noisy. They're not only useful for metal, either; Steve Lukather of Toto is using an 85/SA/SA in this performance...

    Dave Murray and the WHA?!?!

Here's another famous Strat-playing Dave with an unexpected guitar choice: That Steinberger GL3T was the main guitar for A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

How about headless guitars and basses?

Before about 2008, trying to make a headless instrument was a nightmare. Steinberger were the only company to make anything remotely viable, and you could license the technology (a la Hohner) or try to design your own. Gibson don't really want to license it out to others, and designing and...

How about headless guitars and basses?

The idea took off like wildfire. In the 80s, pretty much every guitarist who was anyone had one. Then, it became unfashionable and nobody really talks about them anymore. They've been gaining a fair bit of popularity in the technical / prog metal scene recently, though, with Tosin Abasi (Animals...

    Aluminum strat project

Magnetic pickups don't really work that way. It might be an issue with piezos (though much less pronounced than your post would suggest), but those are always going to sound like crap. A mahogany-bodied guitar with an EMG 81 in the bridge position is going to sound much more icepicky than an...
