    RIP Scott Weiland

Yeah this made me quite sad, though as Dangerous said, it's not exactly surprising. Another sad case of someone who just couldn't outrun their demons any longer. It's too bad, really. I've been an STP fan for a long time. They were one of the first "big" bands I saw in concert. Scott was...

    Humbucker sized P90s

I've got a pair of Phat Cats in my LPS. I absolutely love it in the bridge (bright and brash), but in the neck position it's a tad too dark for my tastes.

    Strange problem..help

My old Telestar does the same thing. Every thing you touch (switches, knobs, pickguard) comes through the amp. Annoying, yet somehow kinda fun sometimes (especially if you add echo, reverb and an octave pedal).

    New gearshift for my car

My dad did that in his old Blazer. Replaced the stock knob with a piston from a four-stroke engine.  :headbang:

    Tele questions

Wow, thanks for all the replies, guys. Regarding tone, I'm definitely looking for some twang, so I'll probably go with brass (even though I'm far from a country picker). Thankfully, I already have a guitar to use in my Norwegian Grindcore band. :icon_biggrin: Regarding the rear-rout thing, the...

    Tele questions

Heh, yeah, that wasn't very clear, was it? My bad. What I mean is there seem to be a few different kinds (vintage, standard, american), and I don't know which I'd choose. Then there's the question of what brand to go with. Thanks for the diagram. That's exactly what i needed to see. Too bad my...

    Tele questions

Due to an unexpected windfall, I may be on the verge of finally building that Tele I've been thinking about. I'm set on a particular body from the showcase (I won't share a link, lest one of you steal it from under me :laughing7:) and a roasted maple neck, but some other important details are...

    Had to do it

Ha! I spent a week in New Orleans a few years ago and I've missed it ever since.

    Confession

I have a confession to make: I don't set up my own guitars. Or rather I do, but I don't know what I'm doing. I have Erlewine's book (I've even read it) and still, any success I've had in tinkering with my guitars seems to be the result of pure dumb luck. Fiddling with the set-up of a guitar I...

    STOP WHATEVER YOU WERE DOING!!!!!

I saw the Stones this past July. Great show, but Keef couldn't have hit the strings more than 75 times all evening. So, yeah, with the open tunings and that unique, staccato (let's call it "airy") style, he definitely keeps things pretty easy for himself. Mick, however, is a beast. My grandpa...

The Black Beast is up for sale.

I'm so sorely tempted by this... And my birthday's just around the corner to boot. Lemme just check on the status my bank account. Oh. Also, the bit about the mallet has me reconsidering the living room, also known as Junior's Domain, as a suitable home for the Gretsch. :tard:

Challenge: what can you build for < $1,000?

This. When my dad and I built my W, we did everything, including the finish. It's far from perfect, but hey, it's definitely DIY.

    Home studio/Total n00b

Yeah I usually do complete songs (guitar, bass, drums) in GP. I like it for drums because I can program exactly what I want to hear without having to rely on my own (mediocre) skills. I've exported the files as mp3s (to send to bandmates) but never as MIDI. It never even occurred to me to do...

    Home studio/Total n00b

Jeezum crow! I was away from the computer for a few days, and this thread really took off. There's a lot of really interesting stuff in here, which leaves me with a lot of homework. :laughing7: Would y'all believe that for demos I'd been using Guitar Pro until now? Dig that Realistic Sound Engine.

    Home studio/Total n00b

I would love (love) to have a kit at home. I took some lessons a few years ago (and was getting pretty decent, if I do say so myself), but sadly, that's not really an option, at least not at the moment.
