Yep, Steve, she's a beauty. I've ordered a chrome rockabilly switch tip and some pearl top knobs from Guitarfetish that will complete the visual awesome.
And like I said before, these Duotrons are the *word for mammary glands that begins with "t"*. love the difference in character and the...
I just caught a really good deal on one of these.
Holy wow, those TV Jones Duotrons are boner-riffic. Very credible crunch in the bridge and jazz tones on the neck that make you want to grow a beard, slap on a beret and smoke some reefer.
Love the 85x/SVX/58x that I have in my Warmoth Tele. Going to put a 60AX--along with a SPX control--in my single humbucker LP clone that I use for slide.
The problem with the 89, from what I understand all the other dual modes as well, is that you can either get a good "single coil sound" or a good "humbucker sound" but there is no height sweet spot where you get both.
The 57/66 is a bad ass set and is what is going in my Ibanez AX7521. Just...
Since 19 inches is in the "octave mandolin" range of scale, does anyone think that a six string 19 inch scale guitar could be tuned to fifths? That is could the two extra strings be used as I could always just leave two strings off and treat it like a octave mando.
How would you do it? String...
^^Sure, sure. I know what you mean and I still solder my passive pups. What was annoying before was having a solderless system if you were replacing the toggle--as you are want to do when replacing OEM electrics--and where thereby stuck with having to break out the soldering iron anyway.
Excellent work, SkuttleFunk. And its not like this is the Seymour-Duncan Forum or the D'Marzio Dungeon (or whatever they have over there). Last I checked, Warmoth was in the body/neck business. All of us are here to build partscasters, and I appreciate knowing what all of my pickup options...
Pretty much what everybody else said. Flats are much "stiffer" than rounds.
If string noise is the reason you are going to flats, try a set of semi flats. There aren't too many decent flat sets out there that are gauged like a round 10 set--11's are considered lights in the flat wound world--so...
^^Exactly. Focusing on the 81/85 has been a marketing mistake for EMG. Plus the fact that they tell people to set up their pickups in a way that is preferable for "MAXIMUM METULLLLLL!!!!!!"
Once I found the sweet spot for my 85x/SLVx/58x I found that, between the pickups and the SPC/EXG combo...
This is how I tune my seven string since I very very seldom make "big chords" on it.
I think the best thing I have done in recent times for my guitar playing--or at least my ear--was to take up the lap steel. Having to really, really listen to every note I was playing has made me a much more...
What Dan said. If you do go the suggested Strat route then run the ground wire from the bridge to a simple screw down terminal that way swapping out pick-guards becomes a solder-less operation.
I just traded a non-warmoth partscaster that I wasn't playing to a guy for an 8 string Morrell USA Custom that he wasn't playing. I play some slide and have always loved the bad ass overdriven tones that could be coxed out of a lap-steel. Looking for pointers/places to start. Names of...
