    L5S build

Sorry for the delay in responding.  Yes, I used a dark brown dye first, sanded the crap out of it, then went over with an amber dye.  It worked :hello2:

    Warmoth harem

Wasn't sure where to post this, suggestions appreciated!  Anyway, here is a shot of my Warmoth (mostly) builds.  From left to right, my recently finished Strat (labeled Korina S).  Black Korina semi-hollow body, quilted maple top (finished by Warmoth in blue dye).  I originally had a maple neck...

    "Blue"

Wow, I think I have its more conservative sister :redflag:

    Another Strat build

I don't think the maple has a significant impact on the tone since it is really thin, it may brighten it up a bit, but probably not noticeably.  I was going to just build an Ice Blue Metallic or Lake Placid Blue Strat, then I got the mahogany neck.  Having the natural mahogany neck match the...

    Another Strat build

This was posted in various states in the 'just out of the box' area, thought I would put the finished product where it belongs.  Mahogany body, maple cap, mahogany neck, BRW fretboard.  The guitar has Seymour Duncan 'lil 59, Duckbucker and JB Jr. single-coil size humbuckers.  I wanted a Strat...

    L5S build

My first attempt at finishing with dye (you can tell...), but it turned out pretty good.  The body is mahogany with flamed maple top, mahogany neck with ebony board.  I put WCR Black Magic pickups in it.  The finish was totally experimental, but it turned out somewhat a tiger eye finish.  Next...

    L5S Custom

Awesome build!  Did you have to specify additional body bracing for the Bigsby?

Pics of my completed birthday present

The headstock has a take on my consulting company name (BlueTone Consulting).  BlueTone Guitars is a play on that.

Thanks for that opinion.  Obviously I disagree :occasion14:

Pics of my completed birthday present

I posted in 'just out of the box' this body when I received it, just realized I never posted the completed guitar.  Here it is, my 50th birthday present to myself.  The body is black korina with a quilted (duh!) maple top.  The neck is a maple neck I had on another Strat that I swapped out for...

My 50th birthday project arrived today...

I had the WCR SR pickups in another Strat, got them a couple of years ago from Jim at WCR.  He will still make them, he just doesn't have them on his website.  Too labor intensive to do a lot of them.

My 50th birthday project arrived today...

Ok, Ok, Ok.  No more veneer in the description :occasion14:  As far as the pickguard, pearloid white may be my first choice, but I'm also going to experiment with a pearloid black pickguard and see what that does to it.  I have some WCR SR pickups I'm dropping in and it will have Callaham hardware.

My 50th birthday project arrived today...

I decided to treat myself for my 50th, so I picked out a Black Korina Strat body with a highly-figured maple top  :hello2:   I also bought a wenge neck with black ebony board, but I'm not sure that is what I want to bolt onto it now.  I have to think about my options. Anyway, thought I...
