ThePhilosopher kindly decided to trust me with his guitar to finish as a 3-tone burst on mahogany. It got off to a scary start as I received it not quite ready to finish; out of the box I about hit the panic button.  :laughing7:
After a bit of sanding with a DA and then some final hand sanding with a 320 block it is ready to get paste filler.
Here is the out of the box heart attack look.

A little loving care with some sand paper and it is ready for a wash coat.

After the wash coat it looks pretty good as a nice piece of mahogany.

The near-coronary comes from a guy I know trying to do an oil finish, failing and then doing a sloppy job of sanding it back. I'm sure if I had sent it to Greg first, there would have been no heart attacks.

I'm excited to finally get this project off the body building/finishing stage so I can get it assembled and start playing it.

Oh yeah, I had totally forgotten you were doing that build. Good luck! It's going to look awesome.

That really came clean. I'm really looking forward to following this one along.

Sweet bass  :laughing7:

At one point it was down to C1 on the 8th string (CGDGDGBE), so it wasn't too far off. :toothy12: It'll be staying in standard or dropped E tuning with the tremolo now.

This brings me back. I remember staring in awe at the pictures Tonar would send me after I anxiously contacted him about my Jaguar neck and body. Just seeing that pegboard brings me back to those days. Can't wait to see the end result. That's one sexy hunk of wood as it is.  :hello2:

Is that how you get premature arthritis?

No more arthritic than playing a 6 string bass I'd imagine.

I know, I'm eagerly awaiting the next update to see the color coats start to go on.

Man, what a beast.  Can't wait to see/hear it!

Yes, I agree, the yellow looks great as it is.

It reminds me of a Johan Gustavsson guitar I tried:
