Hi

Hopefully will finish in several weeks. By the time looks like that.

Actual shade distorted by poor camera. In fact it is far far more green.

Currently working on natural maple binding. Than comes black back finish and clear coats of poly. Neck ready and waiting for the body.

Don't you like the fake pine neck attached for finishing?  :laughing7:

Need to take some pics of the neck.

It is actually "the crisis era axe". The neck, FR bridge and some other parts come from my old Strat copy guitar i quit playing some time ago. I performed some modifications to it.

Here's the neck before

and after my intervention

Headstock re-shaped for 4+2 and birdseye veneered, new frets, new finish - polyurethane  matt

Headstock contour was a total improvisation, just in order to fit the tuners and look hmmm let's say cool. :icon_scratch:

Well, i should have started frrm beginning.

Last year a bought a raw alder board. I cut it into pieces and seasoned for a year.

Than i glued two pieces to gether

Flame maple veneer glued on

Neck pocket, pickups, electronic and tremolo cavities routed

Just working on body binding, it's already on. Still sanding, checking, observing, feeling proud etc. :laughing7: Than will come finishing.

WOW, didn't realize you made the body, nice work indeed.   :hello2:

Yea, I didn't realize that either!
Very nice work and I love what you did with the neck
Very Cooool...
:kewlpics: :rock-on:

I like it,  Theres only one thing I don't like, and that's the "Zero" Fret It will never look like a true quality guitar with that fret,  Your craftsmanship looks awesome, I love the reshaped headstock.

I bet you could pull that fret out, and re-shelve for the nut and move the nut down the neck to the zero fret spot.

But Dude this is all just one guys opinion (mine) It looks fine as is

That zero fret was like that. I considered routing the neck for a standard construction locking nut position. Unfortunatelly, original slot is much deeper in order to let the strings sit on the zero fret. I would have to somehow shim the missing height. I used to play that neck before i re-designed it and never experienced any troubles with zero fret. That project is not a 1:1 copy - just an "ispired" a'la Frankenstein. I didn't even have bluesprint of the original axe, just found a nice front wiev picture and magified it on my computer, printed on four pages, put together like a puzzle, transfered to a piece of plywood which was a routing template. I'm sure it dffers a bit from original scale. Surely it's a fraction of an inch smaller than the original one etc etc but...i do not care. I chose my favourite HSS pickups, my own knobs position. Ok, when i click "Post" i will go to my workshop and spray a coat of black finish on the back.

The fact that you didn't use an ordered template makes it even cooler to me.  I was lucky enough to get one of the first EBMM van halen models, and also one of the first Wolfgangs with the "patent applied for" marking that everyone craves now.  Sadly I had to sell both for financial reasons a while back. :sad1:

Can't wait to see how this looks completed.

i honestly didn't think much of it before but those new pics reveal to me a real professional looking finish. That's some really nice color you got going on the top there.  :icon_thumright:
