Everybody has one, so post it up. That one piece of music that really gets to you, moves you in ways no other can. And tell us what it is about that piece of music, if you can put it into words.

Oddly enough and probably to the shock of many here, mine doesn't really have any "stand out" guitar work on it, if any at all other than Gilmour's slide work. For me it has to be this live version of "Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd from the Delicate Sound of Thunder DVD. The music is well written, but there's just something about the power and emotion in the voices of those female singers that every time I watch it, it gives me chills, and I've watched it many times, still with the same effect. I also own the Pulse DVD that came after it which also has this track on it, but it's missing the magic compared to this version.

A close second is actually a tie for me between Alanis Morissete's "Perfect" and CandleBox's "Sometimes". Perfect is a song that deals with the pressures parents can put on their children to be better than they are/were, or to make the parents famous. This song always makes me think of those young girls who are pushed into the beauty pageants by their parents. The kids don't really understand what's going on around them.

CandleBox's Sometimes deals with relationships/marriages breaking up and two people going their separate ways. This song came out at the same time me and my first wife were going through our divorce. This song really hit home for me. Unfortunately I can't find anything but crappy live tracks on You Tube, but it's off of the "Happy Pills" CD. Great song with a lot of meaning behind it. Here's my MySpace player link, it's the first song on my list.

Candlebox "Sometimes"

So what's yours?

When I listen to music, I feel it more than hear it. I rarely memorize lyrics and I'm much more interested in the music itself, which is part of why I listen to tracks in languages I don't speak fairly often.

Since I tune out lyrics anyways, my collection span quite a few genres, but one sticks out. Take off the crap emo vocals and just listen to the track of "You Fight Me," off of Breaking Benjamin's Phobia, and play it loud. Not sure what the song is about, but I love it.

The whole song is amazing, but the guitar solo just takes me to another world.  It's simultaneously relaxing and uplifting.

Not much in the way of lyrics or music really, but you can feel the weight.  Very powerful to me.

I Stay Away by Alice in Chains

Always find myself singing along to this one.  Sounds like a good road song.  And Layne's voice during the chorus has amazing effect for just 3 words.

Begin the Beguine has always been very moving and personal to me. I prefer it without the words. The composition of this song personifies what music means to me. It tells a story, it brings you in emotionally and leaves you with a sense of something.

I really like the way this song constantly builds tension and releases it. It is very much like life, love, and sex. Though this song was originally written by Cole Porter in 1935, it is timeless to me. There is no better version IMO than the version Tuck Andress does. He plays one guitar, one time through with no overdubs. At the end you think you heard a whole band and the way he ends the song is the perfect final release of the musical tension he so adeptly builds.

The album Tuck did this on is "Reckless Precision". I highly recommend the entire album. Another great cover on that album is "Stella by Starlight". Classic.

This is not Tuck but it is his arrangement.

Yes - Gates of Delirium

22 minutes worth of song. Has 3 parts. Middle section is chaotic. Then it ends with the very beautiful "Soon". It nearly brings a tear to my eye. Any one of the 3 parts alone would not be moving, but the song as a whole is awesome.

Another one that gets me fired up is Rush's Witch Hunt. "Those who know what's best for us...must rise and stand up for ourselves".

This man makes me cry at his live shows for the sheer awesomeness of his music.  It's not sad, it's just beautiful.

Practically every song off of the album "Boxer" by The National gets me, but every time I listen to this song, I get chills when the horn section part starts.

Really though, there are so many great artists working right now that get to me.  Belle and Sebastian have done so many songs that I can relate to, Andrew Bird and Sufjan Stevens are writing gorgeous masterpieces, The Decemberists, Elbow, Regina Spektor, Frightened Rabbit, the list goes on.

I recently discovered this gentelman:
http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=3563&
Justin Lassen.  One of those remix artists that composes his own work.  He's a generous guy and he releases a lot of his music for free.

This particular project of his was an art meets music kind of thing that apparently was very popular a couple years back.

There's a play button on each picture to but beware the 2nd image down is a little bit NSFW

Oh and this piece is beautiful:

a guy somewhere in my neck of the woods,  In alberta, not sure where he is though.  Did this piece for some friends doing a short film.

Oh geez, I almost totally forgot.  I'm not a huge Bob Dylan fan (mainly because of his vocals... I think his songwriting is great, but his vocals make me want to turn off the stereo), but this instrumental piece always gets me all choked up, and I have no idea why.  I think it's one of the most beautiful guitar songs ever.    I should learn to play it one of these days.  It doesn't seem particularly challenging.

Gonna have to post this too...

Yeah, sorry to post two from the same band at the same concert but it's sorta like that 3 part Yes (was it yes?) song someone else posted, eh? Sunday Bloody Sunday mostly for Bono's speech. Let's not start an argument about Ireland; it's a phenomenal speech either way.

When the out of tune singing and creepy synth stop and the guitar comes in... perfection.
