so where is the golden tint coming from? the clear gloss or the maple?

i have a clear gloss on swamp ash - looks nothing like this.

Well it's a completely different species of wood - this is what maple usually looks like. It's possible that time has yellowed the finish ever so slightly, but I doubt it.
