Warmoth Name Plate

I did some work with my plates after I received them from Doug.

The top plate in the photo is the original from Doug and the bottom is the mods since people were asking.  For steel I painted black and lightly sanded back.  I am going to hit it again with a higher grit paper to smooth out the lines in the metal.  I was so jazzed on the result I snapped a photo real quick.

The Brass one was aged 8 hours using a hard boiled egg method.  Brass and Bronze will react quickly if placed in a closed container with a mashed up hard boiled egg.  (I used the same method to put a patina on a bronze Zenith watch).  The longer you leave it in, the more patina you get.

Those came out great. I particularly like the steel one with the black.

Another thing that will blacken steel, brass and silver is Birchwood Casey touch-up bluing It's easy to apply with a rag, brush or Q-tip and you simply wipe off the excess. It won't flake off but you can wear/sand/polish it off.

This trigger guard is brass. The top is before BC bluing and the bottom is after.

nice Dave... :icon_thumright:

just an update, all of the polished up very well with some 600 grit.  Very nice finish

Photos.
Notice how the bronze matches the tuners.  Nicely aged.

The steel one went on the the 2nd Warmoth I built, some ten years ago.  It is not the prettiest (my technique has improved) but it is still one of the best sounding and playing guitar I have.
