I'll share this for you.  I've been working with Doug on getting a name plate worked up.  Here's the latest cad file.

We've done something similar before, but I wanted to tweak it a bit.  I'll post more as soon as it's ready, or leave it open to Doug if he wants to.

Here was wave 1:

There are several options I'd like to try.  The reverse of Doug's black stock is a bronzy gold, as a result of the anodizing process.  I think that might look cool.  He can also do them in aluminum.  I'd like to try also with just the outline of the "Warmoth" lettering.  I'll post results, or open this up to Doug.

What I did with wave 1 was to use Gibson pickguard screws.  They are smaller than Fender screws, less chance of drilling through the back of the neck.    A standard fender pg screw is #4 x 1/2".  The Gibson pg screw is #3 x 3/8".  The metal is fairly soft, I countersunk the screw holes with a countersink drill bit.

Some thoughts:

Since the different headstock shapes are "curvy" wouldn't it be cool to try these name plates made in the shape of an oval? Or something less "rectangular". So that the now rectangular shape would "clash" a little less with the curves of the headstock.

And wouldn't it be really cool if one could "countersink" the whole plate into the headstock so it would be pretty much flush with the wood? Of course that would require a lot of work and skill to pull off, but still ... just a thought.

I have actually some ideas concerning the control plate of a future Mustang build made of black anodized aluminum with lettering or symbols engraved around the different holes.

Well... Its a cool question.  Doug?  I believe we're pushing the size envelope for maintaining detail.  Things would have to shrink even further to include it all.  Maybe this, without the lower text?  With or without screw holes?  The plate is farily thin, I would think one could use it as an inlay.  The dimensions of the rectangle are  3/4" x 2-11/16".

The more I look at this, I like it too!

Cool! I could definitely see myself getting such a plate.

Excellent initiative Ghotiphry! :occasion14:

That's cool! I definitely think the rounded contours are an aesthetic improvement. It reminds me of an automotive emblem/placard. I'll be watching this with great interest!

+1 for the rounded contours. As much as I like Warmoth I have NEVER used the turtle decal on a headstock. You have a good project going there.  :hello2:

I also like the oval plate better, for the reasons Logrinn gave about headstock shape.

I very much like the idea of inlaying it.

The oval plate looks sick. I'd love to have one of those where the "Warmoth" part is hollowed out so it's written in wood grain. Mmm.

Maybe we could do something with the next neck?

I'm up for it. I have the routing/engraving attachment for my Dremel tool, so all I really need is a template. I could make one, or since Doug's making the plates, he's already got part of the programming done to make one for me.

Great. Let's do it. I'll contact you when the time comes for my next guitar. It will be a while longer though, since I'm in the process of buying a house. But perhaps in june.

I think a laser engrave option on the warhead would be cool
I don't even know what that means, man.

It means that you have started something wonderful. :occasion14:

I just love these beatiful creative people here on this forum!

I'm with you on that. So many good ideas here.

I'll tell you guys, I sent Doug a PM asking him about the oval shaped tag.  The more I look at it, the more I like it.  I think he's going to be okay with it, seeing as we are removing the smaller text.  But I'll let him weigh in on things.

I like the oval idea myself. And I could do the pocket in the headstock, wouldn't be that difficult. Or make a template and let Cagey handle that part, either way is ok...

And lasers, really Tony....I don't have a laser machine....They're like a gajillion bucks....
