Upcoming new soldering station day. Ordered a new station today with some accessories.  Looking forward to it as my crappy iron died the other week.

I splurged and got

as well as

http://www.parts-express.com/30-watt-electric-automatic-desoldering-pump-tool-with-pushbutton-action--370-325

I also got this for the desolder

http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&productId=2196772&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&CID=GOOG&gclid=COrxnfekv8wCFQcMaQod1aEHRg#

Though not from that source (and save about $10)

My W S-Type is awaiting some work.

Also treated myself and going to try some 63/37 solder as I have a project that will me mostly small pad work.

Curious, anyone used soldering paste?

Nice pile of stuff!

Just for plumbing, when sweating copper pipes. Most electrical solder comes with a rosin core, so there's no need for any external flux application.

I have used flux very rarely when working with very old and corroded connections (like in 30 year old tube amps).  But as Cagey says 99% of the time regular rosin core solder works just fine.

I got a Weller WES51 in January and it is perfect for me!  Of course, I've only had Radio Shack soldering irons before this...

I have one of these:

But then, I did quite a bit of work on through hole PCB's a few years ago and for a limited price it works quite well. Even for things like soldering ground wires to a lug.
