Unfinish neck

Excuse me, probably because I do not understand English very well, but  if I buy a unpainted showcase neck, I have just 30 days warranty ?
If I apply a finish personally (ex. only filler), I'll have 1 year or only 30 days of warranty ?

I hate glossy and satin finishes, I love NATURAL finishes (oil and wax) but I think the warranty is very important, principally because Warmoth said that 1 in 10 necks may have defects if no paintend!
Or have I misunderstood everything?

Oil or wax finishes are not covered by the warranty. You have to stick with a hard finish for the warranty to be valid.

You have a 30 day period in which to get the neck finished in order for your 1 year warranty to apply.
If the neck is not finished within 30 days, you don't get the 1 year warranty.

Jump in to Rosewood, Wenge, Canary, Bloodwood, Ziricote, Bubinga, Padouk, Purpleheart, Gonçalo Alves, Pau Ferro... no need for finish!!!

we ought to start seperate lists of both woods. I had forgotten that koa needed a finish, and you mentioned now that i also forgot all the korina stuff. I don't know what others your thinking of as far as neck woods that warmoth offers...

Ok men, I read section about neck wood.
But I need a q-sawn maple neck with indian rosewood fingerboard. No full rose, pau ect.
So I ask you: if  *I* make a finish?
FIller only or... tru oil birchwood and wax (like Music Man Axis or Van halen guitars) ?

Quoting from the Warmoth website:

Our necks are warranted to be free of defective materials and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. The warranty will be void if the neck does not get a hard shell finish in 30 days of delivery. We do not consider oil finishes or poorly applied wipe-on finishes adequate protection. Necks with shafts of Rosewood, Ebony, Pau Ferro, Bocote, Ziricote, Bubinga, Purpleheart, Padouk, Goncalo Alves, Satine or Wenge do not require a hard finish.

It's really your choice if you want to leave a maple neck unfinished. Do you live in a very humid place or one with extremes of temperature change? Do you sweat a lot through your hands / is your sweat very acidic? These factors will increase the likelihood of having problems, but you could just get lucky. An unfinished maple neck has a fantastic smooth feel. I'm sure that oil or wax will offer some protection, as well, but not enough to make warmoth happy. That doesn't mean you will have problems necessarily. I say do it if that's what you want, and understand the risk. It's just like modifying an amp really.

Or you could just get a Canary neck. have not tried one personally, but they are supposed to be similar to maple, and they have a similar look.

Highly recommended...
I have one and love it.  So much that I have another on it's way.
Good luck with what ever you choose.

Is there any reason that you have to have quartersawn Maple/Indian Rosewood?
That sounds like a very boring generic neck to me. Do something fun...  :icon_biggrin:

Max, this has got to be the fifth time you have mentioned my black Jazz bass when I said something was boring or whatever. :blob7:
We're talking about necks here, not bodies.
I've got a Pau Ferro fingerboard, much fancier/lighter colored than the average piece, sitting atop a vivid red Padouk neck core. Aside from Warmoth necks, I have never seen another Padouk/Pau Ferro neck, so certainly it's an interesting combo of woods.
If you think the body is boring though, find me some pictures of black Jazzes with solid pickguards. Not quite as common as the three ply. Now find one that has the PJ configuration. Now find one with a Telecaster style pickup selector switch.

I know you have a thing for Tele basses too, you can't tell me that you haven't seen a million of those around.  :blob7:

OK, thank you everybody :hello2:

I would not opening a new 3d (or returning one too old,) so I ask you: it is a good choice a full pauferro neck with chambered alder body with quilt maple top?
The tremolo is a Floyd Rose Schaller witch EMG SA/SA/89.
