I stumbled across this beauty in the showcase and she forced me to completely re-arrange my list of guitar projects. Honestly, the body is visually more impressive than either Warmoth's excellent showcase pictures or my crappy cell phone pics have properly captured. You can see for miles into that finish. This will be my sixth guitar build, my third Warmoth, and it will be the first one that I've actually done for myself! I am quite excited!

I'm trying to get in touch with Tone-Guard for an anodized gold pickguard cut with the standard control routes, but they reply only to about 1 out of every 15 e-mails you send them and they don't answer the phone, so that's been a frustrating endeavor. I did get one reply telling me that he could do the setup I was asking for but that it would involve an up-charge. I'm good with that, and if he decides to respond to any of my "Where do I send my money" e-mails then I guess it will happen.

I haven't ordered the neck yet... Going to go vintage tint gloss maple with rosewood or ebony fretboard. The source of my paralysis-by-analysis is this: to paint the headstock black, or not to paint the headstock black?

Beautiful body, Verne! (I can't believe I said that-I don't even know you!). Not that it matters what I think, but I'd say that the anodized guard and a vintage tint headstock would be a nice rich contrast with the red of the body...my opinion, YOUR GUITAR! Gonna be a beauty whatever you decide.

Beautiful part, Verne.  Nice grab.

I'd go with the black headstock to reinforce the contrast of the dark edge of the body.  That's just me, howev's.

Aw, shucks! Heck, I don't even work out!  :laughing11:

Thanks for the input guys. Your contrasting viewpoints are a perfect reflection of my own internal struggle, haha!

That sure is a gorgeous body! I'd want an Ebony fretboard to go with that, so a black headstock might be too much. A vintage tint Maple will match a gold anodized or cream pickguard, so there'd be some balance there.

See, my own view is that it would look lovely with a matte black pickguard, a maple fingerboard with or without black block inlays, and a black-painted headstock.

I guess that's what makes horse races.

Good insights guys, thanks!

If I were going maple for the board, I do think I'd agree with you completely there.

You're speaking to my heart, Cagey. That puts a fine point on some of my own thoughts.

Neck is supposed to arrive TODAY! Pretty much got everything else. My plan is to assemble it then have a tech do whatever fret work it might need, make a (bone) nut for it and set it up. Starting to get excited about it.  :toothy10:

Neck order is in. Flame Maple with Vintage Tint Gloss, no black on the headstock. Ebony (Black) fretboard with Pearloid Block inlays. Jazzmaster headstock. Communication with Tone-Guard is resuming, so the gold annodized pickguard with standard control routes should be a go.
:rock-on:

That neck is perfect for it. Looking forward to more pics as it progresses. It's gonna be something.

Glad you fellers concur! As with most of these decisions, I hemmed and hawed until I just didn't anymore. Suddenly the vintage tint flamed headstock seemed like exactly the way to go and I wasn't thinking about black anymore. As for the fretboard, I have an ebony board on my Taylor Grand Concert and love it but this will be my first ebony board on an electric. Seems like the right application, and I'm looking very forward to it! I'll be sure to post pics as stuff comes in, and there will certainly be a build thread when I get rolling on it.

And the neck is in! Ebony on Flame Maple with vintage tint gloss, Pearloid Block inlays. The flame is spectacular; I couldn't capture it with the lighting I had so you'll just have to take my word for it......

I think they go together real nice-like...

Still waiting on the pickguard........

As it turns out, GAS is quite communicable. All the talking about this Jazzmaster build prompted my dad to order up a Jazzmaster body and neck of his own! This build will be temporarily on hold till his stuff comes in, then the plan is to make it a simultaneous dueling-Jazzmasters build. Which is going to be an awful lot of fun!

In the meantime, I'll be occupying myself with this:
