I've never finished a guitar before, I'm making an alder bodied instrument and want a transparent green like finish like on the Thruston Moore Jazmaster.

I want to stain the wood and then spray over a thin(ish) coat of cellulose lacquer.

I've tried reading many threads on here and other forums watched youtube videos etc and I'm just getting confused as to how I should tackle this.

Does the body need sealing and/or filling before staining? I've found some rattle cans of clear cellulose for sale so will applying the final coat with this but any advise will be appreciated.

please  :help:

Hi, Smudger, and welcome.

I think I'd start with some dilute Transtint black, and then go over it with Transtint green, each of them diluted with water.  Test on some scrap before you go for it on the real guitar body.  Once you're happy with the color, then you'll seal it, grainfill if necessary, and then clearcoat.  I think those Fender Thurston Moore axes are done in a satin finish,, yes?
