Doggone it Slarti!!!! You are killing me!!!!! That is one magnificent instrument!! I can see why when you posted on my Gecko posting,  your anxious wait!  I would have been  pulling my hair out waiting for that baby!!  Plus you gave me an idea for my Jbass build coming up soon!

What are you doing on your J Bass? I actually have one of those on order right now. It should be here in about 5-6 more weeks! I'm going with a fretless, rear-routed Black Korina with Wenge neck and Pau Ferro fretboard.

Im struggling with decisions on the body as far as wood choices! Of course Im leaning real hard toward a Swamp Ash core with Swamp Ash laminate in Tobacco Burst with a 3A grade Birdseye Maple neck and fretboard with pearl dots. I do wish the Tobacco Burst was just a bit more brighter in the center, not much but just a tad! But regardless, it's a beautiful color. I've looked at the exotics and your Black Korina Tobacco Burst has got me thinking that as a laminate top! Probably wont be ordering it until late summer anyway. Waiting on my pickups from SGD to arrive so I can get my Gecko to Larry in Va.

Ever thought of Brown to Clear Burst  :dontknow:

Another idea would be to let Tonar do the finish. He does fantastic work pretty reasonably and you'd be able to get exactly what you want. Plus, he uses nitrocellulose lacquer so the finish would be repairable if you aren't into the whole "beaten to death" presentation. Warmoth uses polyurethane over polyester, so if you smack it up you're stuck. Not that it's a bad finish - it's great - but there's really no repairing it.

Cool man. I look forward to seeing what you choose later. I think in addition to Updown's suggestion about the brown-to-clear burst, you should look at the black-brown-yellow or black-red-yellow burst options. Good luck!

I LOVE that guitar... and I'm a huge fan of the headstock on a strat.  I have a fair few of my own W strats set up with that.
