Hello! First post/first Warmoth purchase.

I am receiving a Tele neck with a decent amount of flame - excited.

I'm getting 6150 frets and the white tusq XL nut. My question is - how much nutwork and fretwork should I expect to do? are these fairly accurate out of the box? I typically dress the fret ends etc, but will i need to level and re-crown them as well as final seat the nut slots?

First off, welcome to the board!

Warmoth's necks arrive pretty much playable right out of the box, being new, and they do a great job. The frets are relatively level, since they're installed on a freshly-milled fretboard. But, there are usually at least a few that sit a bit proud that you may want to knock down a bit and re-crown. The ends are only bevelled, not dressed, so that always needs to be done. Then, after all that, you'll want to polish out the grinding scratches.

The nut slots are cut a bit shallow because they don't know what you're going to use for strings, so they have to leave room for you to adjust.

If it's a fretboard that requires finish, such as Maple, you'll have to clean finish off the frets. Also, the truss rod will probably be a bit relaxed.

So, yeah. A setup is in order.

thanks for the welcome, and the reply.

separate/unrelated question: are there any known builds/photos of a superstrat type guitar with the tilt back "warmoth" or "vortex" neck? looking ahead to my next build, i want to do a superstrat but with a 3+3 headstock...haven't found any photos yet on the warmoth gallery or google, but haven't really dug through the build gallery here yet - if you know of any offhand please share the link!

I know I've seen one, but can't remember where.

I have a Warmoth headstock neck and an old-style VIP body that are going to go together one of these days that's sorta stratty, if that's any help. Not quite the same thing, but has that kind of outline. Given a choice, you may want to consider the Vortex head, though. That's what's on the L5S in my sig, which looks very similar to the Warmoth head, but the tuners line up better and you have a straighter string pull.

Really?
I'm seeing the front and back, complete.

Is the pic, really really big?
If so, you should be able to scroll left/right.

but....but...but....we can't see the whole guitar  :dontknow:

Some browsers will allow you to hold down the "CTRL" key and hit the "-" or "+" keys to shrink/enlarge images. "CTRL" + "0" returns you to original size.

Following up to ask: does warmoth glue or otherwise affix the nut in these necks? in order to do a good job on the frets i prolly should remove the nut - anything i need to know?

The nuts are firmly in place. I haven't taken one out but suspect they are glued.

I've not found this an issue for doing frets. I put a few layers of tape over the nut and then use my hand to prevent any tools from impacting it.

They are glued. But, they're easily removed and reinstalled. Shouldn't need to, though.
