Ever use Tru-Oil? It's a wipe on varnish (iknorite?) that works pretty damn good. If you use it on the neck, Warmoth will accept it as a hard finish. I wouldn't get the small bottle, go for a big one or two. Don't keep it out in the cold, that was my mistake (3 bottles down the drain).

If nothing else, wipe on poly works pretty good. I don't like spraying, just because you have to pay so much to get a sprayer that doesn't suck.

I've never used Tru-Oil but I'm considering it - either that or Wipe On satin Poly. I want to get a very light natural skin-like tone because the maple is so pale looking, which it looks like I could get from the Tru-Oil. I'm also considering staining the back of the body and neck with an ebony or dark brown stain, right up to the line I drew that separates the front, to really contrast the light-colored maple.

Hmm, Tat front and ebony back? This is GOTM.

Maybe a mix of ebony and deep brown stain to match the color of the burnt wood  :icon_scratch:

I'm picturing something like this, but reversed:

I like it- maybe you can do my arm next-if I didnt spend so much on guitars Id surely be sleeved by now! But seriously cool, I like how the circles around the volume & tone are offset so when the knobs are on theyll look like crescents.

Looks to be a very, very cool build.  I am posting so that I don't miss the finish.
Should be great...  :headbang1:

Thanks to everyone for your interest in my project - I'll post updated photos whenever I can. I was bored while waiting to work on it again so I drew this mockup (not quite finished)

Here's my only issue with the guitar, as I mentioned in the JOTB thread - I'm pretty sure I got the body routed for the standard Fender bridge sold by Warmoth, but it doesn't come in black, which I didn't realize until I already had the body. Does anyone know if I could use a bridge like a Gotoh or Hipshot for example and have it match up with the Fender rout? Or maybe you guys know where I can get that Fender string-thru bridge in black?

I dunno whether it matches the Fender specs, but here's the Hipshot (per Stewmac):

I did see that diagram - all I know is that the Hipshot screwholes are quite different from the Gotoh, but Warmoth's diagram of the Fender bridge doesn't show that measurement between the side screwholes.

Ignore my last comment - I just realized I only had to double one of the measurments from Warmoth's specs. Looks like there's a tenth of an inch difference between the Fender and Hipshot screwholes, so I might have to get the Gotoh bridge and drill new holes, but I won't do any drilling until I'm sure. A Google search for Fender American Standard Flat Mount only brought me back to the Warmoth site.  ???
