Tat Strat

What color are you going to paint it?

No really, that is one of the nicest guitars I have ever seen.  :icon_thumright:

Thanks guys - I've been too busy to work on my guitar this week, but I did get a nice suede strap that I saw on the guitarcenter website and it looks like it was made for this guitar.  :headbang1:

How does the woodburning on the fretboard feel? Or did you sand it out or fill it with something to get it smooth?

I'm gonna echo what someone said earlier, tat the entire fretboard, the empty spots are big beacons of nothing

But the "nothing" makes the "something" pop. If he does the entire fretboard, all the details will blend into one another. Leaving it as is makes those details he did do really shine through. But that's just my opinion, he's gotta do what he wants with the guitar.

Agreed, it would look to crowded, I mean there would be too much going on there.....The empty frets break it up a bit, and keep it from being too busy..... :dontknow:

Thanks for the responses - if I do a custom fretboard on a future guitar, it might be on all the frets sort of like Steve Vai's vine design

Here's what you poetic people are missing, it's a fricken busy guitar as is, those gaps on the fretboard are ugly, when one of you says doing the whole fretboard makes it too busy, your just voicing an opinion just for the sake of input, and thinking that there must always be some contrast, bullcrap. if it's gonna be art, make it art all the way. Don't listen to these people that say it will be to busy. Look how sexy a neck with no fret markers looks, many here agree that no fretmarkers looks awesome, so on the flipside an all tated neck would be the same.

You started this project with a vision, and that vision has prooven popular on this board, don't let my vision, or anyone elses vision clowd yours.  But take a breath, step back and look at it, those blank voids on the fretboard standout WAY too much

Yes, everyone else is voicing their opinion for the sake of it but YOUR opinion is the lone correct one.

I have no opinions I just agree with everyone! We can all get along, and we can all be FRIENDS. There is no right or wrong, there is only the all-encompassing void, from which sprung the effervescent polymorphic gob of... aw crap, I'm running downhill here. Let's ask this guy:

"All you need is love, love, love
love is all you need... tra la la" :hello2:

he don't look very login' to me . . . good thing we've got the Guy on a Buffalo to protect us!  :icon_biggrin:

I like the blank frets but I purposely did light woodburning and a thin finish so I can play the guitar for a while but easily change or add to the design someday if I change my mind.

What finish did you put over the woodburning on the fretboard?

Tru Oil

Awesome thanks! I've always wanted to try woodburning on a fretboard, but after seeing your's, I know that I have to try it!

If you have a woodburning tool with adjustable heat level, start off on a low setting so you can sand down mistakes and you can always make it darker later on if you want. Also, a really helpful tool is that exacto knife with a curved edge blade that I pictured early in this thread - that's for correcting mistakes and cleaning up the edges of the burning.

OK it has been 3 months, I want to see finished pictures of this Axe.
I honestly believed it was going be GUITAR OF THE YEAR in 2011
so what is the hold up, we want to see this one finished

+1. I'm just hoping he doesn't submit his guitar for GOM the same month I submit my bass, I would be bound to lose!
