Swollen bridge on acoustic?

Hi guys, I'm too lazy to go to AGF or somewhere, and you all know your stuff anyhow. I'm fixing up this beater-but-good-sounding acoustic for a friend / jam buddy. The old bridge pins actually disintegrated when I went to remove them, and these new stew mac ones are way too big even though they are the standard size. I'm assuming that to get these in right, I'll need to somehow do a conical reaming of the bridge pin holes? I can only assume that at some point the bridge swelled up or something. That, or the stock ones were smaller than average and the wood swelled up just a little bit on them. Any ideas much appreciated!

Yes you need the tapered bridge pin reamer from StewMac - available in 3 or 5 degree, and yes it matters which you get.  Price about $55 plus shipping.

No, it didn't swell up, but could be you have a case of putting 5 degree pins in a 3 degree hole... which would make them seem way too large.
