One day I looked through the Warmoth Showcase this mahogany body appeared:

And having this IMO minor finish flaw it was very cheap:

So I hit the "Buy now"-button and paired it up with this rosewood/macassar ebony 28,5" scale baritone neck I had bought previously:

I also had a set of Suhr DSV+ bridge and Suhr DSV neck pickups along with some Seymour Duncan Triple Shot pickup rings.

Inspired by Buckethead I also wanted a kill switch. I have later soldered a 22 Kohm resistor parallel on the switch to get rid of some of the popping noise it makes.

So yesterday was rather cloudy and fine time to get some pictures taken out on the lawn:

The Triple Shots where you can get coil split etc. does not have the best impact on these particular pickups IMO. So I always use them in hum bucking mode. I just too lazy to desolder the system as I don't think I'll ever use it again on another guitar.

The front strap button I have placed right on the neck plate. It gives a surprisingly good balance on this Diplodocus-looking instrument.

And Planet Waves auto trim tunes works fine with baritone strings as well:

I have had it tuned to C using standard 012's for an extended period and the guitar sounds really good that way. But I decided to try out D´Addarios EXL158  (013 - 062) and tune to B. One have to play around with the toys after all.

SO NICE!!! WOOOOW!!!! White with black pickguard = ALWAYS WIN!
And strat headstock, 24 frets and all... I think actually that the longer scale is what makes this really look great!

I was like "I WANT THAT" immediately and I'm almost an exklusive strat/superstrat player.
:toothy12:

So, are they re-introducing Explorers again?  :icon_scratch:

I actually drill through the neck plate so the strap button rests slight recessed against the wood.

But yeah, it is IMO the best way to set up buttons, much better balance on most any guitars.

thats, BTW is Hawt.... :icon_thumright:

That's a good idea. So the strap sits real tight against the body.  :sign13:

That will go on my to do list. Thanks.

Doesn't the 22k resistor reduce the output impedance? Seems like you would lose a LOT of output with such a direct load.

Just checked - A/B with a strat with the same bridge pickup in. And yes - I thinks it's around 6 dB lower. I think I didn't notice that because of the change in string gauge. Thanks for pointing that out.

Any advice in what value resistor to use then? As you may have guessed this not a thing I know to much about.  :)

You want the depop resistor to be high in relation to your pot. If you have 500k pots, I'd stick a 2.2Meg resistor across there. The thing about depop resistors is you don't need much (ie, even a very high value resistor works to keep the two sides at the same DC potential.

At the very minimum, 1M. 10M might be too high. 3M to 5M would be good.

Pretty.  But the explorer is the poster child for Gibson's utter disregard for strap button geometry. Useless horn just for show on the wrong side.  Stick the strap button aw man I guess we have to put it here again.
