I'm planning to build another Warmoth for my 30th birthday, but they didn't quite have the neck specs I was after so I ordered wood and sent it off to have my neck made - I'll be using a Warmoth body though (it still counts, no?).

Here's the neck wood on the right (maple stringers will be added):

Here's the fretboard wood on the left:

A drawing of the neck (it'll be using gold Hipshot locking tuners):

I've always been fascinated by the fanned frets. Never had a chance to try them.

With regard to the tuning, is that the F above the standard E? The C above standard A, etc.?

That's the F below F# of a standard 8 string tuning, followed by the C of tuning the low E of standard tuning down two steps. Everything is tuned down from the high E (which is the only one that is standard).

Notes followed by string gauges; the tension is progressive without large jumps.
E4    .010"
A3    .014"
D3    .024" (wound)
G2    .036"
C2    .054"
F1    .080"

Here's me noodling around in full fifths (a step above the tuning I'll be using): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96O3znCPCzU

Oh, wow. I'm in love with that idea.

I've got .012 - .056 on my 24.75" Hagstrom Standard Swede and I can play it in D-standard, beautifully. The strings aren't too floppy or any such drawback. I've never thought to take it down any further, but I'm tempted, now.

I've been dying for a baritone guitar; I just love low tunings / unconventional tunings, in general.

I've thought of building a chambered Tele with f-holes, but Hagstrom has told me they're looking to make a left-handed Viking Baritone in Arctic White, which is exactly the finish I'd want. Sure, the guitar's not unique if it's a production model, but I'm a drummer to begin with, and if I expand my stable of guitars, I feel like I should spend a little less money to do it.

All that said, I'm going to love keeping tabs on this project of yours. And I hope to hear it, too!  :rock-on:

I keep a hardtail guitar and a trem guitar each in my favorite tunings, Open C and Open Bb. I don't play much in standard tunings. I should get round 1 of pictures in a couple of weeks after the woods acclimate to being in Austin from Oregon.

Is there a name for this kind of fanned fret guitar?

The term I've heard for guitars or quasi-guitar like instruments that are tuned in 5ths is "CelloBlaster" - I would also call this particular instrument awesome.  :guitarplayer2:

The more I look at purple frost the more I want it, someone talk some sense into me.

Purple Frost is silly, don't do that.

Tobacco Burst on BK. Done anddddd done :icon_biggrin:

I sent an email and asked if Warmoth could/would rout the angled pickup rout for me - we'll see what they say. Purple frost with pearloid binding + gold hardware, is it too much?
