Starting out and ending up

part 1. So i was thinking what was everyone's first guitar and amp? (yeah im bored) I started out on a cheap squire strat and 10 watt fender solidstate combo amp, like 175 dollar package,
part 2. what are everyones future gear acquisition goals, or current rigs? I've got my warmoth start with 2 hums and a floyd about to get a laney pro tube lead 100 watt head and possibly mate it with an orange 4-12cab

I'm still on my first rig. Some indonesian acoustic and a line 6 amp I just got today. A spider III. I bought a soundhole pickup just today too.

I'll see how the blackheart products are, and choose my dream amp accordingly. A few W guitars, like my tele and hopefully an SG.

Part 1 - Amp:  A Heathkit twin reverb copy that I built myself.  Guitar: A harmony Les Paul copy

Part 2 (last year):  A bunch of rickenbackers into an AC30 type tube amp that, you guessed it, I built myself.

Part 2 (this year):  A bunch of warmoth teles into a VOX Tonelab straight into the PA.  Didn't build the tonelab, but I did have to repair it.

Past: Teisco guitar and amp, Radio Shack fuzzbox. All three were modded into oblivion.

Future: More fuzzboxes.

Part 1:  A pawn-shop Ibanez (beat up, twisted neck, pickups didn't fully work)  and a Peavey rage (also from a pawn shop, didn't work very well)

Part 2:  Looking on building more warmoths, and picking up some pedals and a nice apartment sized combo amp or small tube amp - preferrably with one clean channel.

My first electric was a Peavey Raptor I bought new for $140 or so.  I also bought a used Peavy Rage 158, which is a decent little practice amp that I still use a lot.

My current rig is almost always Warmoth LP -> AnalogMan compressor -> Carvin V3 -> Weber Mass III attenuator -> Mesa slant 4x12.

In the distant future I may go to a rackmounted amp, but that won't be for a long time if ever.

Part one: A red guitar.  The only identifying mark on which read "Made in China".  This was in the eighties, before china became the quality producer it is today. Hee-hee.  The amp was about the size of a shoe box, and had what I can only imagine was a 6" speaker in it.  It sounded worse than crap.  I would usually wait for my parents to leave the house and I would plug into the "mic" input on my Mum's JVC hi-fi, and jack up the input volume, at which point I would get a great Fuzz-box like tone.  You kids with your Squires don't know how much worse it could have been.

Part two:  Two self assembled Warmoth guitars, my hardtail Strat, and my thinline Tele, and a 2001 Gibson SG standard, which will clearly be the last guitar I ever own from an over the counter manufacturer.  Warmoths only for me from now on, unless I can get my hands on an older Gibson ES at some point.   First generation Mesa Boogie Dual Rec with the stock tubes switched out for some el-34's, and a trunkload of pedals, half of which are distortion or overdrives of some sort.  As far as stuff I would like to obtain, mostly I would love to build some more Warmoths, and get myself a slew of tube amps of varying power levels.  Aw, who am I kidding, I need more pedals too.

Not to hi-jack, and by the way three of you posted while I was typing!, but DBW, you have got to tell me what your opinion is of the Weber attenuator.  I still want one, and the Webers are way less $$$ than the THD hot plates, but I don't have anyones opinion of them to go on, except the makers themselves, who are always going to tell me they are great!

1st: A '59 sunburst Fender MusicMaster with matching tweed case and '59 tweed Champ amp I traded $80 of weed for.

Current: A room full of Warmoths, some other axes and amps but I'm currently mostly playing my hot-rodded '64 Gibson Melody Maker through a Blackheart Handsome Devil with 2 1x12 cabs.

Future: ??? Already have 3 basses and 6 guitars to finish assembling parts/finish/assemble. Who knows after that?

First Guitar was an Ibanez acoustic electric. then a Squier Strat. First amp was a Fender Princeton 40w.

Current rig: Rivera Knucklehead 100W tube amp/ Crate 2x12 combo, GT10 Processor (plus a few pedals). Playing with my Dean EVO and my stolen/soon to be replaced warmoth LP/BFG

Future:...  I'm looking to get a Crate GT3500 shockwave solid state amp to replace my combo. its discontinued as of last year so i pretty much have to find a used one.  And thats if I dont decide to sell my amp and buy a Bose L1 system.
future guitars.  Dean Soltero Standard (someday) and from W: Jazzmaster "superstrat" & LPS baritone for detuning.

Someday I'll get a good guitar synth setup too.

1.First electric was (and still is) Epiphone SG 310. Amp was (also still is ) Marshall MG30DFX.
First Guitar was Hondo acoustic H-35, which by far the best acoustic I have ever played.

2.My goals are to finish my Warmoth soloist, build a bass (not Warmoth), buy a Crate V series half-stack and use a SD Twin Tube Mayhem distortion pedal.

My first guitar was the inevitable under £50 rubbish nylon strung thing, not very good. My first electric was a Westfield Les Paul clone cost around £170 if I remember correctly and played better (to me) than any on the equivalent Squiers and Epiphones on display, I later found out that it wasn't well built as it started to fall apart so I sold it and replaced it with an Ibanez GSA60. My first amp was just as bad as the Westfield it was a 15 watt Kustom amp with a tuck n roll cover, it had a terrible distortion which for some reason was called a 'Harmonic Clipper.' My set up has always been cheap all of my guitars have been £250 or under and my amps have never been worth more than £150, that is until I built my Strat which I reckon I've spent about £600 on.

In the future I'd like a to build a Warmoth Tele to go with my Strat ideally it would be a companion piece which would mean a top routed vintage tint swamp ash body, all pau ferro neck with a white pickguard. After that I'd like to build a VIP with p90s and a baritone LPS although those plans are likely to change. Unfortunately I won't have enough money to do any of those for at least the next year and a half. As for the rest of my rig, I'd like to get a decent 10-15 watt valve amp and expand my collection of stomp boxes which is too limited for my liking.

1) cheap ibanez iceman remake - some sort of Cort practice amp with an mxr distortion+ pedal.

2 now I have a fender cyber deluxe and a BH LG - and I still want more... still planning a couple of warmoth guitars in my head... still have a few amps I want... not sure if I'll ever get any of them...

Part 1:  A korean made telecaster knock-off called a "Vintage".  That wasn't too shabby.  Yamaha JX30 Amp.
Part 2:  A warmoth brew semi hollow swamp ash body w/ lightly flamed maple neck w/ jumbo stainless frets.  Neck is 1 11/16. Torres mid range tone.  4 way switch, Bill Lawrence (the guy's) tele pups. Planet Wave tuners.  Sold my big combos, and still play thru my JX30.  BBE compressor, green screamer, soul vibe into an alesis fx mixer, and a sonic maximizer in the effects loop.

Future:
A warmoth mahogany body telecaster, with a p90 in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge, 5 way switch (like a 4 way, plus an out of phase setting), rosewood neck with rosewood fret board.  1 13/16 neck. The largest stainless frets we got.  Use what I got, but add a sansamp DI into a tech 21 combo.

Anybody who's somebody either had a Kustom with the tuck n roll covering, or knew someone who did.  :toothy12:

Kustom - the porn star amp.

1. No-name 3/4 size acoustic; Fender highway 1 strat; Marshall MG-poo poo

Current: yairi acoustic baritone; warmoth tele deluxe -> Vox AC15.

Future: Lots of guitars that haven't been totally conceptualized yet. But, a straightforward strat, a straightforward tele, an updated jazzmaster, a semi-hollow, a hollow body jazz guitar, nylon string classical, vintagey-sounding fender amp.

My first ever guitar was a Stella Harmony acoustic.  3/4 size was just perfect for my 8 year old self.

My first electric rig was a PRS clone into one of those Crate modeling amps.  I still own and love the guitar, the amp died on me and has been replaced.  Here's a pic of my first electric circa 2005ish.

My future rig is constantly changing, but I could be totally happy with a good Strat (ala Warmoth of course) and a dual P90 guitar, perhaps a VIP?

As far as amps go, I'm totally sold on low wattage/less speakers now.  The 30 watts of my V33 is even too much for me to easily use, especially with my 212's.  I think I need 2 112's, one with a Celestion Gold, and one with a G12H30.  Avatar of course, probably those new Contemporary 112's.  They're huge!  Which means big bass response. :icon_thumright:

I also would like 2 amps (heads).  One with EL84's and one with 6V6s.  For EL84's I've played the Thomas Winfield Cyclone, and it sounds glorious, just like a really good AC15.  For 6V6's, I'm a little torn.  I've played the Bogner Duende, Allen Accomplice as well as vintage Fender offerings (one of the benefits of having geezer friends :headbang:), and they're all really, really good.  I would probably lean towards Allen though as I don't see a $1000 improvement in tone towards the Duende, and Fender doesn't offer heads.

Louie, I'll start a thread about this in "The Rig"

My first guitar was a japanese SG copy, with a small Fender practice amp.
the first effects I bought (soon after that) was a Boston Overdrive (or Distortion, can't remember, but it had a great tone) and an old Electric Harmonix Flanger, both out of the clearance/used bin. the first 'new' item I bought was a boss dd-2!

Currently I have a bunch of Warmoths, some fenders, 5 fender heartfields, a couple of Ibanezes, some Westones, and some other ramdom stuff. my setup is simple, a crate palomino amp, a zoom 9150 Valve DSP rack (which is great for recording) a Digitech RP2000, a vintage ibanez AD-9 and CS-9 and a VS Route 66

besides a couple more warmoths I would like to have Westone Prestige 250 (I have a soft spot for old matsumokus)
I'm also going to look for a new multi effect soon that I can also use for PC recording (on a budget, like a vox tonelab or something - will ask for advise here soon)
I am also sure that I will be buying lots of crap inbetween, since I have this crazy disease that won't allow me to drive past a pawnshop without stopping, going in and buying crap..  :tard:

1. Well, my first was that cheap Squire Strat and 10 watt Fender amp package.

2. I currently use a Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom (I think that's what it's called...) into a 30 watt Vox tube amp.  And my current (and first) Warmoth project is pretty much what I've always wanted...and will probably be my main guitar for a very long time.  As for amps, I'm not that picky...anything I can get tons of distortion on.
