Last week, on my regular ebay-survey, I saw a nice warmoth les paul. flamed black korina top on mahogany, maple neck, ebony board, stainless steel frets, I believe MoP dot inlay, but a baritone, but ey, the body is a major looker (despite the crappy pic!!), nice hardware (gibson pickups, sperzel tuners, gotoh bridge), case and strap included, for 500$ starting bid. I waited for today, to place my first bid, and crap, I was the second one! so, I thought, well, how much can I spend, and what's my own limit?

it ended up being mine, for 530$ ex shipping to there! which is ofcourse a MAJOR steal!

the case looks terrible, but I think its sellable, same for the pickups. nice deal, me thinks!!!

Well, I got the same idea as you: buy it and use only the body :laughing7:
But I didn't have the money...

Congrats!
What is coming on this project?

well, I'm thinking of indeed getting rid of the neck, and putting a bubinga/ebony neck on it. but maybe the baritone will have such a major appeal that I'll leave it on, though I do lean heavily towards bubinga now (don't have a bubinga neck from warmoth, nor a purpleheart neck; got almost all the others! padouk, zebrano, wenge, rosewood, canary, ziricote, bocote, ebony, pau ferro, pau rosa).

I agree with Nonsense - sell all the bits you don't want and turn it into something you'll play.  The case and neck are definite sellers though.  :glasses9:

Think it's time to try Cocobolo :P
But I'm not sure if it'll match the look of the body, we need better pics of it when it arrive :D

Orpheo, sounds like a deal.

However, you are one of the most....how shall I say....well, you have very specific tastes.  I can't believe you could find something already built that you could live with.  That is even more impressive than the deal you got.  Are you sure with all those LPs, there's no room for a baritone?

well, it would be the third that I bought already made :) the body is perfect, only the neck should be different. hence I'm thinking of the bubinga/ebony neck ;)

Very nice find!
You can scoop up some nice stuff on e-bay if you know what you are looking at.
Congrats!

Shit, I forgot about that auction! I wish eGay still sent notifications like...sooner than 8 hours before it ends. Regardless, congrats. Looks great, if that neck comes up for sale; I'm interested.

Well the case is uglier than a mud fence, but it's paid for. Can you sell it for enough to buy anything?  I say keep the case just to store a guitar in from time to time , or convert it to hold old cables pedals and parts.

Or trade it for a snickers bar

you are interested in that guitar?! well, thats great to hear, cause I'm already selling it so to speak, without having even had the guitar in my hands! cause there was a catch.

The owner told me the amount of shipping to the netherlands, and MAN I was shocked! aphalled is a better word to describe. not because of him, but the amount, no way I can budge that kind of money out of my wallet.

So... the owner said, ok, if its too much, I'll relist it. but if SrDeMaFp wants it, I can act as a liason between him and the seller; I'll send a PM in a moment!

Because, I wanted to put a bubinga neck/ebony board on this guitar, but for the money he quoted me for (360$ international vs. 50$ domestic...), I can have W. build me a GREAT body, really to my specs: black korina with a walnut top, binding, neck with binding, clearcoat for the body, etc etc...

So... This story comes to a good end afterall.

$360? WTF??

yeah... heavy case, long parcell due to long scale neck. those were his arguments, but I don't really believe him. I think he's crapped out and angry cause the guitar didn't sell for as much as he might have hoped for. I emailed him some days before the end of the auction, and he was firm in his believe that the price would skyrocket some minutes before the end of the auction.

If I wasn't completely broke right now, I would have taken it off you! :)

I understand the problem ;) I'm quite adamant about this, that I won't pay for this much shipping, its ridiculous.

I tried it out myself on the site of UPS, and 360$ is way, way way too much. 120$ to be exact, and still; its too much. strange that warmoth can ship the parts to the Netherlands for 77-90$ each time...

Such a idiot, don't?
Say him to send it on the "pay when arrive" way... Don't know, must have a way...

no, thats not nice too :) UPS is just really expensive...besides, the idea of a korina/walnut LP is much more attractive to me than anything else..maybe a new walnut/koa...?;)

Unless you live on a mountaintop or something there's no way $360 is right, tell him to try his scam on someone else.

apparantly, UPS does charge that... Don't know why, cause when W. ships, its always below 100$! but still, I emaild the guy, and I'll see where it will end :)
