Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

- Wendy Dio

Oh man ... I'm so sad.  :sad1:

Oh man.  :(
From the Guardian website -
The heavy metal singer, Ronnie James Dio, died today at the age of 67. He had been suffering from stomach cancer. {the photo caption says throat cancer}
Dio was best known for fronting Black Sabbath after the departure of Ozzy Osbourne, but was also involved in the bands Elf, Rainbow, Heaven & Hell and Dio during a career stretching over 53 years.
His current band, Heaven & Hell, which features other former members of Black Sabbath, had announced earlier this year that they were pulling out of their summer commitments due to the singer's ill health.
His wife and manager, Wendy, paid tribute, saying: "We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

I just read this and got goose bumps.

last i heard he was doing ok.

The vocal he did for Stargazer is the greatest male vocal performance of all time in my opinion  :rock-on:

Ronnie R.I.P, today rock lost it's father.

I feel lucky that I got to see him in his prime back in the early 80's. Saw his first 2 solo tours twice each. What an amazing performer he was. It truly is a sad day for rock 'n roll. God rest his soul.

Rest in peace, Ronnie.

That sucks... What I've heard of his vocals was good, but my brother isn't a fan. I don't think he looks as Dio as a completely different frontman as much as Ozzy's replacement.

Stargazer has always been my #1 favorite song..
this makes me really sad.. I was also under the impression that he was doing much better lately.

I was just watching this yesterday:

i've had Rainbow In The Dark stuck in my head all day since i heard the news. first thing i did was get on youtube and listen through. great song, even better music video. he was a strange guy, but a legend. one of the musicians i think i would have liked to have met the most.

I've been just...crushed by this since I heard about it early this afternoon. Brings me back to the garage days of my youth in south Jersey, banging out for hours our somewhat feeble attempts at Sabbath and Rainbow tunes, nobody getting close to the operatic grandeur that was Dio in his prime. Sad day for rockers.

R.I.P. R.J.D..

by the way, Yngwie equally ruined with his guitar performance while RJD totally owned "Dream On" on the above vid.  just saying.
