How about a unique choice, but letting blue choose the top? Then if he wants to spend $400 on the top it's no biggie. Alternatively, the Mango one looks killer (like nice koa) and I've never ever seen a mango guitar.....

how bout a L5s with double f and a nice traditional spruce top? with a korina back dyed in a dark transparent red, to get a nice contrast!
or slap a nice cherry burst on!
personally I think Bigsbies look weird, but it does fit in with the theme!

You could get a gibsonish look on there by having a cherry burst on the spruce, I think. I don't think korina will work though  :dontknow: I'd say clear mahogany.

Hmmm.....the choices on the unique tops for hollowbodies really cuts the choices down to eight.  Nothing really jumping out at me.

I'd probably opt for standard Warmoth fare, which doesn't worry me in the least.

We have a proposal: L5s with dual F-holes, 2 Lollar P90s and a Bigsby!  Blue likes L5S, doesn't have P90s or a bigsby, and let's face it Soloists are kinda weanie guitars.  :icon_jokercolor:

Doc, the tone on those pickups is seriously stunning both clean and overdriven. I can't imagine how you prefer your ceramic magnet floyd sound, to be honest.

I like the proposal.  Resisting the urge to defend the Soloist. 

However, you must understand that the only humbucking pickup that I like that has ceramics is the Evolution.  The others are Alnico 5.  Regarding choice of tone, it just depends upon what one likes.  Its all good.  Given Blue's guitar collection, I think HE would enjoy the L5s/P90/Bigsby much more than a Floyded shredder anyway.

The L5S/P90/Bigsby gets my vote.

I personally don't see the harm in you voting.  Do it anonymously if you wish, but it would still be a "board build."

Just sticking together the top options from the four individual polls really does risk creating a FrankenL5S. Maybe somebody with universally acclaimed good taste should create two or three variants from the top choices, just to keep things coherent, and we could pick one of those with a final poll. Or a couple of somebodies could each do one proposal.

Here's my concept:  Black Korina back, Padouk top, Wenge neck with jet black Ebony fingerboard and MOP dots.  P90s, and Bigsby. 

I posted this before I saw Byte's post above.  I doubt that I have "universally acclaimed good taste," but I like the ones I've built.  I think the above concept would be sweet, and that's from someone who is NOT a P90/Bigsby guy. 

On a different note, this is really exciting, and it is very cool how everyone is coming together to put together a nice build for Blue.  Congrats again to Blue and thanks again to Ocguy for putting this all together.

that sounds pretty sweet to me -- I was thinking the same thing except I wanted a flame maple top... color undecided. But padouk would also be very nice.
