Purple Quty Pie

This is a quick shot with the neck resting in the pocket, just to give an idea what we're up to here:

Gonna bundle it all up and ship it to the kindly gentleman from this board who has agreed to do my setup for me soon!  Just gotta order the case for him to ship it back to me in.

Peace

Wow that is one nice Tele you have there......the more Carved Tops the better I reckon!  :icon_thumright:

Love the purpleburst. Prince would approve....

Cant believe this slipped under my radar ... Totally rad! That neck with the purple burst carved top body is just SUPERB! Look forward to seeing it finished  :headbang1:

I just can´t stop looking at this beautiful purple colour, and the neck is just perfect for it.......is it a Rosewood neck?

Thanks, Gilmore -

It's wenge-on-wenge.  And it's very, verrrrry nice.

I'm told to expect ~2 weeks to completion.  Parts all arrived at Cagey's in Michigan today, and he's already underway.  Woohoo!

Hurry up Cagey! I wanna know how it sounds.

Mr. R6 is correct; it's going to sound like a guitar. But, it's going to look and play like a dream. The sound can always be changed. To start with, we have some PRS "Santana" pickups to put in it. Not sure who makes those or what they're supposed to be like, but we'll find out. They're traditional side-by-side humbuckers, so you can start from there with the expectations. Thing is, it's gonna be a wenge over wenge neck, tied through close-threaded brass inserts and stainless machine screws to a surprisingly lightweight (for a Tele) maple over mahogany body with a very nice wang bar. So, this is not your father's Tele. I have a feeling it's gonna wanna romp and stomp. Those are pretty stiff woods, so it should have more high end and sustain than you might expect from a lightweight with 'buckers in its guts.

Yeah, I was surprised. I expected it to weigh a ton. But, it is a carved top, so a lot of weight gets lost that way. Then, it's got the cutaways in the mahogany to make it comfy for humans. Finally, you never know with wood. Species only gives you an idea what to expect, not any kind of guarantee. Some mahogany is quite light while other pieces aren't. Swamp ash is that way. You never know until you machine away all the parts that don't look like a guitar body what it's going to weigh.

Back shots...

As you can see, it's got the contoured heel, beer gut relief and vibrato cavity routes, so it's not so chunky as your typical Tele.
