I don’t know about anybody else, but between Wildwood, Fretted Americana and (the late) Pro Guitar Shop these sales pitches occupy a statistically significant portion of my recreational listening... I used to catch up on the news when driving around, but that is no longer pleasant so I often stream this stuff in the car from my phone instead. (Safety moment: audio only - don’t watch YouTube while driving!) As Mitch Hedberg would say, I have severely improved my predicament!

If you listen closely in this one, you can hear me buying a set of Lollartrons to go in my ES-137. Thanks Greg!

And this one contains my favorite rendition of Detroit Rock City.

Here Andy sold me a Nightwire, but alas it was to be a gift for a friend of mine.

-VB- are you driving while looking at this stuff on a phone?

Certainly not! It’s a strictly audio affair; I suppose I should have mentioned that. The phone connects to the car stereo and streams the audio via Bluetooth and YouTube with “auto-play” (or whatever it’s called when it automatically proceeds to the next video) active keeps things rolling. The phone lives in the center console. Essentially just streaming music from my phone, except that the music happens to be the audio portion of a video. It does get a bit challenging when a Joe Gore video comes on as he never speaks and I have to guess at what he’s demonstrating, but it’s good stuff all the same.

Phew, I was surprised if you were looking at it also.  :icon_thumright:

Just came across this young singer, Elise DeGrow, who's got a wonderful voice.  She's recently released an album of covers of old Chess Records hits that she does in non-traditional arrangments (i.e., they don't adhere strictly to the format of the original) but in a very stripped down r&b band context.  What. A. Set. Of. PIPES.

Check her out:

This freaky thing came up on Boing Boing on my RSS feed this morning.  Fascinating visuals created using Google Deep Flow and other AI tools.  The music is not really my bag, but it's well performed and tightly edited, so I give them that.    Anyway, I give you:  Hardcore Anal Hydrogen.

Beats tossing your cookies, am I right?

One of the things I admire about you, Kevin, is you're PROUD of being a curmudgeon.  :icon_thumright:

See, this is why I never drank or did drugs.  I recognize this for the technological marvel that it is, rather than the work of Beelzebub.  You old dudes, drinking your dangerous visions away...

and he can actually play that thing  :)

I remember sitting on the living room floor watching Hee Haw when I was a kid.  GOod times, and a nice sendup.

Here's a mashup of Marvin Gaye's "Heard it Through the Grapevine" with Ratt's "Round and Round."  The guys who can hear the similarities and capitalize on them have something going for them.  Not sure if it's a good thing, but it's kinda fun.  Judge for yourself.

Very clever, and well-done. Although, while the message is the same, the changes to the instruments, tempo and presentation alter the mood of the song so much it doesn't have nearly the impact of the original, which conveyed a distinct feeling of spooky betrayal and underhandedness that matched the words. You don't get that with this treatment.

I love that guy, really a unique player. He manages the very difficult task of composing instrumental guitar pieces that are simultaneously technically mind blowing AND musically intriguing! I put him with Satch and Paul Gilbert as the "shredders" that I can listen to incessantly without ever growing bored. I enjoyed this video of him discussing his Tele collection; he's just a regular ol' guitar geek like the rest of us  :laughing7:
