Hey,

I used to make guitar amps under the name 'Mayfly'.  They sometimes show up for sale, like this one that got listed on flea-bay recently:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mayfly-BC-30-Amplifier-Head-AC30-Clone-Made-in-Canada-/254638249599

Looks like it's been messed with a bit (cover plates are swapped), but the craziest thing is that someone painted Elvis on the top!!!  Looks like they cut the tolex then painted on the raw wood.  They still want $1200 for the thing too!!

Haha...that's awesome.

How does that custom mod make you feel?

Reminds me of when my daughter got her first tattoo. Her: "It's really small dad, I promise." Me, after a day of hand-wringing and anxiety: "Holy hell Jess...that thing covers your entire shoulder!"  :icon_biggrin:  (I'm better now.)

Or is it more like the rare occasion where I find one of my old albums for sale in the bargain bin at a pawn shop, and I wonder what the story is and why somebody got tired of it?

I mean, someone must have really liked the amp at some point....that painting implies commitment!

It's a shame that the builder/manufacturers of things like amps, guitars etc. don't receive second hand sales royalties. Fender would be as big as Amazon by now if that was the case! I'm sure it's a solid performing amp. From what I saw from your kit amp build videos, you sure as heck get right into the engineering of a good build.

Very cool Trevor, had no idea you are such a technical wizard...Maybe a dumb question, but did you ever use you own amps with your band? :dontknow:

Trevor that's big time!  Morning talk show on tv ... Awesome.  I watched that with my morning coffee and then again with a second cup.

Thanks man.  That was 16 years ago!  (during my Rickenbacker phase)

Looking closer at that amp, I see someone's modded it.  Carbon comp resistors and no insulation/mechanical support on the solder joints.  Eeeeeewwwww!  ???
