NS6105 vs SS6105

Why do the 6105s have different dimensions? The more common Nickel/Silver 6105 fret wire is .096" X .047", while the Stainless Steel 6105 is .102" X .049"

So the SS6105 is bigger than the "Jumbo" NS6150? I want to have jumbo frets on my new bass, so if I want to go for the Stainless Steel wire and I want about the same size as the NS6150, I should go for the SS6105?

Strange names?

Thanks!

If you can differentiate fret height to .002 - .006", you should quit your day job and seek employment as a micrometer....

This is how it shows as of the time on this post.   :icon_scratch:

6105  .096" X .047"  Narrow and tall. A very popular choice.
SS6105  .095" X .047"  Narrow and tall.

Edit: I like SS6105 personally.  Its not as low and wide as others, but my notes seem to ring cleaner on these taller frets.  I'd like to see SS6130 offered.

OK. There seems to be wrong information on the Warmoth website. Check these out:

Take a look at both the NS6105 and the SS6105 with both links as shown above.

The information is not the same!

Do you guys now understand why is started this topic?

I think they're too small for a bass. I prefer bigger ones. Also because frets on bass wear faster.

I just have the nickel 6105, but I love them, they are very good. I would have liked them a bit taller though, but I guess you can't always get what you want. :-\

I have them on all my warmoth guitars - and even bought some extra wire to refret my non warmoth axes.  Great stuff...  but that said, for a bass I think it would be far too narrow and not high enough.

I love SS frets in general.  The only time I don't get them is when my build requires neck binding.

OK, thanks for your replies guys. However, my point was to say the information on the website is not correct. Anyone from Warmoth around? Please check my replies earlier. You may want to correct this. Thanks in advance.

Oh, by the way. Now that I know this, I decided to go for the SS6100 for my bass.

I think Jack kind of hit the nail on the head with your question.
4 thousandths of an inch will be an undetectable difference unless your eyes and fingers use laser beams.

I'm not a binding guy. so i'm happy to use SS frets on all my warmoth orders.
You'll love them.  the claim is they don't wear down.  Not counting my W that was stole, I've not even had my W guitars for a year, so time will tell if this is really the case or not.
