NGD!!

Nice Walther, they make some great guns...And another plus on th Hydra Shoks, I also keep some G2 R.I.P.'s.... :laughing7:

I just checked Ammunition Depot. 9mm G2 R.I.P. is $43.80 for a box of 20 (over $2 per round). Federal HST is $29.97 for a box of 50 (about $0.56 per round). Hydra Shocks are in the neighborhood of $1.00 per round.

To be sure, if I want ammunition that can take care of business, you can bet I'm going to spend what I need to spend, so I looked at some independent ballistic gel tests [https://youtu.be/-hpoyioicVU], and decided that I'm content to stick with the Federal HST. In fact, one of the tests [https://youtu.be/_27b9P0dfuI] resulted in the G2 R.I.P. failure to feed in a Glock (what I shoot)! I just don't see FTF issues with Glocks.

Like the guy in the video says, there may be a time and a place for the G2 R.I.P., but my traditional bonded hollow points will always do the trick.

Regardless of what you carry, please run a few magazines through your pistol just to be sure it works. It can be expensive, but consider it cheap insurance. After an afternoon of practice, I tested my standard carry ammunition with a new pistol (not a Glock) and discovered that about half failed to feed. That would make for a very scary gun fight, to be sure! I swapped ammunition until I found a round that did feed correctly. This discovery should always be made at the range!

FWIW - the ammo that didn't feed well in that .45 was the Federal HST (it has a wider, sharper lead corner and tends to snag on the feed ramp which is fairly steep on that weapon). I switched to Hydra Shock to eliminate the problem.

yes, the RIP ammo is a bit pricey, as you said about twice the cost as the Hydra Shoks. But I've shot a box of 9mm, .40 and .45 of the RIP thru my guns and had no issues. So I carry a mag of each the Hydra's and RIP's for self defense. I've also smoothed and polished all the ramps on my pistols, it's just something I do to all my guns just out of habit...

There was an issue with the Glocks and the .45 ammo, I believe the recalled certain lot numbers and replaced them for those that had purchased the .45 ammo. But i don't own a Glock so i didn't have an issue.

Been wanting to make some 1911 grips for a while noe. Finally got around to working on them. the oak is just a test piece..

My baby was feeling left out, so I had to post her picture too. Probably should have spruced her up a bit before taking the photo, but she's a working girl and don't mind showing it.

Modesty prevents me from showing her 7 rounds of Federal Hydra-Sock. (One of the few rounds worth a damn in .380ACP......)

She shares my love of fine wood, as evidenced by her Goncalo Alves grips.
If you reload -
\Back in the day for a 380 round, I used Winchester silvertips (no decent LW bullets were available). Pulled the bullet, dumped the powder, and reloaded using 4.7 grains of SR 7625 (AFAIR). That 88 grain silver tip bullet now crossed the chrono at 1080+ fps.

I run Fed HSTs through my 21 for HD.  Solid round.

Did some light upgrades.  Steel rear sight, Meprolight front, Glockmeister channel insert, extended slide stop/release..might move to a plain serrated rear and keep the Mepro front.

TBurst Std-
No, not a reloader. If I wanted a hotter load, I'd probably go with the Speer Gold Dot in .380. Muzzle velocity is listed as 1040 fps. Hydra Shoks come in around 1000 fps, so I stay with them. I do agree that the Silver Tips were in need of something, but I haven't shot any in years.

Did some more work on 1911 grips...

I had som Pau Ferro grip blanks some years ago, and just couldn't find the time to tool up to finish them, ended up giving them back to my uncle who makes stocks.
