If you're a fan of Wampler pedals and also a user of fuzz effects, here's some news that should interest you. Wampler now makes a fuzz pedal! Here is their promo video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HycMvNatLuc.
Right now they have an introductory special - it's on sale for $179 (that's $20 off the regular price, good only for the next couple of days). I ordered one. Can't wait to get it. I had previously decided to get a Subdecay Flying Tomato, until I saw this one. Hope I made a good decision (I think I did, we'll see). Their website is: wamplerpedals.com

Well, I just got my fuzz pedal, and it's great. The thing sounds killer, has more gain than anybody could need, and still preserves note definition. I'm glad I ordered it, it will definitely get used.

Hmm... Can you roll back your guitar's volume to clean up the signal? Those are the only types of pedals that I've been using, lately.

I also have some pedals that clean up well when turning down the guitar volume. This one doesn't really do that, when it's on it's on. That's why I have other overdrive/distortion pedals on the board with it.

I have a Tym guitars "This Machine Kills fascists" fuzz http://www.tymguitars.com.au/?page_id=4&shopp_pid=1095
, but I'm looking for something a bit more classic, a bit more Live at Leeds. Suggestions?

Hmmm, Live at Leeds. Pete Townshend's sound of that period largely came from playing through full volume Hiwatt stacks. There is a pedal designed to emulate that sound: the Catalinbread WIIO. I have one, and it truly is pick attack and guitar volume sensitive, as they claim. When things are turned down you might not think you even have a dirt box on. Here is a pretty good review of the pedal:

The HI-Watt's are a bit of an issue, but I know he played with a fuzz too. Was it a univox superfuzz? ANyone?

I don't think Mr. Townsend would have used a Univox Superfuzz. At least, I don't remember ever hearing it, and you can usually hear those miserable things from a mile away. It's a very unique tone. I suspect the only reason anybody used them back then was because there weren't a lot of choices like there are now.

That's a good review. Much as I hate canned fuzz/overdrive, I'm half-tempted.

Indeed Townsend's sound at Leed's was a Superfuzz into cranked up Hiwatts

Let's call this one proven.

Well, I stand corrected. Never would have suspected it. Maybe I'm thinking of something else.
