new here, first Warmoth order on the way

I can't get a good picture of the body with my cell phone camera - it just sees a blob of black and doesn't focus properly. Use your imagination, it's a glossy black 72 Thinline body.

Nice neck.... :rock-on:

Progress report: Tuesday the 26th I carted my boxes of Warmoth parts and the "organ donor" for the pickups (my old Cortez flying V) - having talked briefly on the phone to Mikey the guitar tech - and showed up at TrueTone Music in Santa Monica. Late afternoon downtown Santa Monica and I got a parking spot right at their front door: this was a good sign. Mikey and I opened up the hardware box and went over a list to make sure we had all the parts. The list checked out -- in business!

I had asked Mikey if he could remove the pickups from the Cortez to use them in my Thinline. So when I brought it in he said "let me take those out for you", and got right on it. He had them out in about 10 minutes while I waited and checked out the nice store and ogled some boutique pedals. He didn't have to do that, I didn't ask for him to do it on the spot. Nice touch. He got the pups out without even removing the strings. And when he brought the pups over he asked if I wanted them the same way in the Tele: "Screamin Demon in back (bridge) and Full Shred in front?" He knew what the pickups were - I was impressed! And the Screamin Demon is also one of his favorites - he said he sets up a lot of guys with that pickup and tells them if they don't like it he'll take it back out for them (and said nobody has taken him up on that). He agreed with me that they named it wrong. I like this guy.

I have a delivery/pickup estimate of the end of this week or beginning of next week. I'm eagerly anticipating getting hold of it. The only thing that could delay it is if it needs any fretwork. Mikey said that's about 50/50 in his experience. Seems like he's built a lot of these.

Next report - when I pick it up.

Man I wish there were guitar techs like this around where I live.

I picked up my finished Thinline today! It looks good, it plays good, and it sounds good. I am a little surprised at how trebly the bridge pickup sounds though (Screamin Demon). I guess that's the characteristic of swamp ash. It loves the Full Shred in the neck - it has a huge sound to it. And I just have to get used to the bridge. It still sounds good, especially cranked into overdrive. I like the feel of the all goncalo neck, as I thought I would. So all in all, I'm a happy camper. Here are some quick and dirty pics:

Nice to finally see it done.  Sweet build...  Sure hope you get accustomed to your screaming demon...

That's a dead sexy guitar there!  Sorry to hear the Screamin' Demon didn't work out.  I never had good luck with that pickup either.  I never could get it to voice well with another pickup, and it had to have heavy gain to sound decent.  No good clean sound.

Damn that looks fine! Im surprised how much I like the goncalo with the black. Black guitars get sexier to me every day.

Hmmm, not sure if I like it.  Please send it to me so I can play.....er inspect it.  :toothy10:

No really, that is a very sweet build. Congrats.

After playing it for a while, I'm liking the Screamin Demon in the Thinline. I am just used to the SD in an all mahogany guitar, which is a lot darker sounding in general. I find that with the tone knob about in the middle the trebliness of the SD is tamed, and all those upper harmonics really sparkle again. And with the Full Shred neck it really sings - it sounds huge and a little bell like. I'm liking it a lot.

Great looking guitar!  Let us know how you like the stainless steel frets.  I"m looking at 6115 frets on my next purchase.

So, what is your next project?

Re the stainless steel frets - I don't notice any difference between them and the regular fret material in my other guitars. So I guess I like them fine. (Mine are the 6115's - I like the way they feel size-wise. I thought I'd notice the bigger size but I really don't, except it's easy to play).

My next project? LOL. If I had the money left, I'd build one of these:

I've found the SS frets to feel a lot smoother for bending and vibrato, albeit with no real difference in sound. Hammers and pulls seem to be more articulate, but that could be my imagination.

That blue Strat is nice - brings back memories of my Levinson Blade. Loved that guitar. Probably going to have to do one something like that myself one of these days.

Noice!What's the action look like?

P.s. Next time you should check out a guy named Mosha for your assembly and set up, he works at the carvin store on hollywood blvd and he does a superb job on set ups...
He'd probably be a helluvalot cheaper too.
